Almost always race. Even training rides with my racing mates are races cos they faster than me. Occasionally ride with CW, and don't race which is cracker.

Even those of us who enter races, then " just ride" mostly race too. It's just how we built. Check all of us checking our times on the results sheet at the end. It's natural to want to do the best you can.

Wish they would get some of those Jager shooter girls at the water stops...

No problem...SS sa champs. Watertables are more like pubs....beer, kaptein skuim, brannas, jager, sletsappies....choose you poison

Hey, that I CAN race...!

ja down downs....whipping flies of poo with a sweep, getting hot aunty's upset because you called them aunty, see guys so drunk they struggle to navigate a bridge, tequila shots out of a waterpistol, watching one hot aunty slapping another hot aunty in a kinky kind of way...and that was waterpoint 1

I think it was MTB legend Charlie Kelly who said: "Put two guys on bikes, and it's a race..."

True story that. Both will promise that they not racing.

Hahahahaha! I used to ride with mates in the minedumps a lot. It was always a mellow affair...until you got near home (read: pub), and then the jockeying for position for the "final sprint" would start!

Hi. My name is SLiick and I used to race... ... road.

Yeah, when I was young it used to be weekend after weekend up at 3 or 4am to be at the venue by 5am to be warmed up and racing by 6am.

My last two "races" were Mankele Avalanche and SSWC 2012. I will probably do a handful of Enduros and possibly some social DH and throw in a SS and 24 hr event every year. So generally just ride for fun as much as possible.

Only enter a few (very few...) races a year

Love to race but find it's more enjoyable to focus on a few specific events rather than chasing fairies and racing every weekend.

Also prone to race while training, you know that moment when the shaved leg species comes cycling past or sit on your wheel without saying helloooo....its always fun to try drop them...

I used to enter races only to be caught in the midpack chaos. Fitness dictated that I ride there. Long story short, It gives me greater pleasure to just ride with mates now. We can ride mostly similar if not more tech single track and trails and we can push back up and ride them again. For me it isn't racing. At my level, it is just an over congested ride.

I'm with you on this!!

Rather spend those "race fees" on something else...
