Sir Chris Froome?

How British is Chris beyond his passport (thanks to dad)?

Think I have spent more time in 'Ole Blighty that him

He's gone on record repeatedly about being british, feeling british, having a british passport, british parents, raced on a british licence, raced in the olympics as a pom blah, blah and the whole box and dice... and like a lot of poms has a south african girlfriend trying to marry him and get a uk passport! ;)

For Froome, this sense of honour is part of his upbringing and an unusual one it is. He was born in Kenya, educated in South Africa and now lives in Monte Carlo. It is when I ask him if this makes him a "Plastic Brit", for the only time in our conversation, he seems out of his comfort zone. “No, no. I know I’m British. I haven’t spent much time in the UK but my parents are British, my family heritage is British so, if I wasn’t British, what would I be? I am British.”

I believe that he qualifies in this regard for a MBE (Member of the British Empire). :whistling:

I think Wiggins was knighted for his overall contribution to cycling in Britain. His palmares on the track must have contributed to the honour.

Of course.Olympics,World Championships.

His record is huge and CF has a long way to go to equal it

Just look at Wiggos results in 2012

Who cares, Wiggins is a prick, Froome wants no claim on us, yet we want to claim him, that is a one sided relationship just like, Mike Catt, KP, Andrew Struass, Alistair Cook, Johnathon Trott, Brad Barritt. We have enough proper local talent in our country that are proud of being South African, so lets rather FAME them!!

The guy you mentioning is probably the only name most people will recall thinking about the TDF. For me mostly the only name worth remembering anyway

No doubt the only reason why he wasn't the first "Brit" to win the TDF is that we was never "British" enough. He was undoubtedly stronger than the Wig last year but unfortunately for him, Brialsford started Sky with the intention of producing the first "Brit" winner. Rather a Belgium born Brit than an African born one to be the first. Also dont think the poms fancy Froome as much. He can talk the talk but he will never be British enough.

But a lot of this is not his fault. I'm sure he'd love to stand on the podium with his national flag. But I'm sure his to confused to figure out which one it is. Globalization for you! it's not his fault. But for the sake of diplomacy, he has to talk the "I am British" talk.....
