Kit Notes Update:

Drivetrain: SRAM X0, 2x10

Still going strong. Haven't adjusted a single thing on the bike since the build. Thanks SRAM, thanks Cycle Factory! Road a bike with XT for a week and it's immediately obvious how much better shifiting is on the X0 under load. Smooth, precise with a nice confident mechanical feel.

Wheels: AM Classic 29er Tubeless

Light, tight, fast, affordable and true...pick all 5! Not a scratch, dent or ding to be seen anywhere so I think it's safe to say the soft rim issue has been sorted.

Tires: Schwalbe Rocket Ron Front, Racing Ralph Rear

Still going. Since the problems with the non-snakeskin Rocket Ron front, I haven't had issues again. Keeps air surprisingly well.

Brakes: Elixer 5

Had a bit of a rough patch here. Started to squeal, sorted, then started again, but it seems sorted now. Stopping power is good for brakes that cost this much and with me running 160mm rotors front and back.

Fork: SID XX, 15mm Thru Axle

Loving it! Plush, controlled, stiff enough...just does the job.

Shock: OE RockShox Monarch RT3

Have it dialled to a T by now. Tune suits the suspension like a match made in heaven.

Cockpit: Mixed Breed

Nothing much to report here other than THE WHOLE FREAKING WORLD SHOULD GO LONGER IN THE TT AND RUN A SHORT STEM TILL THE END OF DAYS!

The blend between the Vipa's geometry, the shorter stem and wider bars makes for a bike that has single track handling most other 29ers can only dream of. Non of the slow turn in or sluggish handling that are common on other brands. And to have that on a 29er that's not trail or AM focused from the outset is an even bigger achievement.

Reverb Steatlh

THE WHOLE FREAKING WORLD SHOULD RUN A DROPPER POST ON ANYTHING THAT WILL EVER SMELL GRAVEL OR DUST AND BE DONE WITH IT!

Snapped a pic while riding around our depot today. Having a dropper on the bike helps here too!

I trust you didn't smoke while riding with your earmuffs, safety goggles and steel toed boots. Dis you at least wear a hard hat / helmet also? Do you know your Vipa is now tax deductible as a work vehicle?

Does your ride around the "depot" include for a loop around Majik Forest?

No, but it does include a spin to Zevenwacht and a quick loop around Bottelary Hills Trails from time to time!
