Was with Miway.

Premium 5 out of 5 (cheapest in the market by long shot at the time)

Claim 5 out of 5 (2 claims R26k back smash and R5k windscreen). Both paid out within a week of incident with no hassle.

Currently insured with AIG through broker. No choice here as It is a perk from the company which I dont pay for (beside tax)

These are the guys I have been with for 25 years and no amount of Frilly bulls..t will move me. Never had a problem with claims, reinsuring, negotiating premiums or any admin even when I had overlooked certain things.

I have only been with them for two years. The two claims were handled super quick and no hicups. My premium is now 1200 thats for my household stuff, car, bike and other stuff. Next year it will be down to 1100 again. Their bike insurance is just as awesome. I will hesitate to move to another company.

Both my Bikes and all my Kit / Equipment are insured with Outsurance. (Premium R440.00 for R60 000.00, cheapest I could get Rand for Rand)

Had one claim about three years back (broken alu frame). No quibble from Outsurance, took it to my LBS that confirmed it was fubar . I thought only the broken frame would be replaced, but they paid out the full insured amount INTO MY BANK ACCOUNT within three working days.

LBS built me a new bike with that money, and I again insured it with Outsurance.

My Outbonus is paying next month, so I'll invest it back into my Bikes with a few upgrades.

They Changed it now, Because when i phoned them and asked if they will pay me out the money, because i can def get a better deal at another lbs or online, they said no ways. They pay the money into your nearest Cyclelab's Account and then they will give you a replacement bike.

I made a claim with Outsurance and had while I had no issues with the claim process, What I didnt agree with was being told that they would pay my insured amount over to Cycle Lab and I had to buy a bike from them!

Thankfully after having a chat about this they agreed to pay into my account.(Cycle Lab after hearing the amount of my payout immediately said they had no bike in that range, R15k, and I had to pay in!! I told Outsurance that this was BS as I should be able to find a good few bikes for that amount of money!)

I dont see why I should be forced to use Cycle Lab to purchase another bike?

Geez!! I had two bigish claims in the last three months and mine only went up with R100. I'm with Indwe risk services.

No no, you have a good broker!

This is the vital part that always seems to be ignored when you get screwed by Direct Insurer.

Pay a broker the R50 a month extra, and let them deal with all the k@k of claims, 3rd party etc.

People are quick to drop their brokers to save a few bucks by moving to a direct like Out or DialDirect, (even Miway and Iwyze who are owned by Santam and M&F) and are just as quick to moan about not getting their claims paid, or having incorrect cover bla bla. Just like everything else in life, rather pay for a service and get it.

Sure OutSurance and the rest will be quick to tell us about all their success stories, thats because their marketing budgets dwarf those of even the biggest insurers. The rely on new business not keeping business, hence this tempting offer of "move to us or we give you R400"crap.

My Point exactly!!

So its actually a loose-loose situation. So lets say you insured a Spez bike for R50000. And outsurance pays out, you're not going to get a Spez bike at Cyclelab..

Then you have to settle for second best!!

My bike has FULL (travel, accident, theft etc) cover via my broker on an M&F policy, sum insured is R65 000 and R10 000 for my Wheels, total - R180 pm. Shop around.

Thats pretty cheap, my bike is insured for R25k and its R175p/m premium!

Does your insurer specify who they make the payment to in the event of a claim?

Let me guess?? Today or Tomorrow Outsurance will tell everyone on the Hub how they sorted out the Problem and sorry for the Inconvenience and they always put their Cyclist first...

This is exactly how the direct insurers operate - treat 1 in every 100 clients like gold, and use their glowing reviews in their promo material in print and on TV. Everyone else gets treated like @ss to pay for the lucky one (and the TV airtime).

Get a decent broker - well worth the extra few bucks a month when you have to claim.

Perhaps Cycle Lab has a deal with Outsurance?

We'll place all our short term insurance with you if you promise to force all your customers to buy replacement bikes from us? Or, We'll give you a good deal or your short term insurance and we'll even throw in a lot of unwilling customers for replacement bikes? Or, lets work together and make us both some money from these rich cyclists getting robbed of their bikes left right and centre?

Pick what you think closer to the truth!

Prehaps CycleLab and Outsurance can comment on this if they are reading these posts?

Why would they, they have a very large client in the bag, thats cycle lab having Out and Out controls CycleLabs...can you imagine the back room discounts etc coming from this unholy alliance?

They want to control your money, your life when they insure you...its like being treated like a dumb kid, you cannot get a new bike from Leighs in Durban, NO! YOU WILL GO TO CYCLE LAB, OK, UNDERSTOOD???

Your money, should be your choice...or lets say you get whacked by a car, you s h i t your chammy and decide never to ride again...now you have to spend the insured amount on a bike, rather than a treadmill in your lounge where you feel safe...absolute bollocks!

Surely if you kick and scream enough they will pay you out and you can go wherever you want?

Question for the guys who were told to go to Cyclelab. Did you specify a specific bike (brand, model, components), or just a specific value (don't know if you can do that)? I will be very unhappy if Outsurance does not replace exactly what I insured!
