Hi guys,

Thinking of doing some night riding at Modderfontein soon - what is the minimum that I need in terms of lights?

I have one small Giant light for the handlebar, and one small headlamp at the moment. Will get a cheap rear light as well.

Will this suffice? If not, please recommend what I should get as a minimum - my budget is really tight this month as I've just thrown money at a Menabo Winny 3, so I'm really looking for the cheapest option.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks.

I did end up doing some research, ended up ordering a Niteye B10 on special. I guess using a cheap light is a bit like using a cheap helmet, don't really want to take a chance with something that's responsible for your safety.

Check out the Magicshine specials in the classifieds

Good lights for a good price with good service

IMHO the best light you will get at that price . Bought one for Transbaviaans and it was amazing . I did not even get the top of the range model but the R600 thingie

This should provide you with some information:

For night riding you need a main light in the 1000 lumen range.

There are plenty of options available.

Local, imports, grey or chinese.

Nice thing about local, like Ryder, is the warranty and backup is not an issue and you dont need to wait months for the replacement.

Might cost a bit more than the cheap nasty stuff but worth it in the end.
