correction they take 3 pics, front, back and top, the cameras are powerful enough to read the details from your licence disc as well so even covered plates are useless with the licence disc in the window. have a mate who setup the storage for the camers, each pic is roughly 70 odd Mb, super fine quality and worth a hell of a lot of money.

someone should let the cANCer members and Nigerians know that, they will steal all the cameras and the problem will go away :whistling:

Without proper focus on a point its highly unlikey they can read the disk from those cameras at that range.

The only way for me to believe that theory from SANRAL is to see it, they are definitely bullsh!tt!ng.

I'm well aware.

I just meant my post to say that you can't win by just covering the back plate only. Now, me, I usually (as in at the moment I have no plate on the bike, it got separated when I loaded it to take in to my shop to replace the clutch the other day, and I haven't had a new one made yet) only have a plate on the back, and the license disk is down by the foot-peg, so no worries there...

Even 70mb per pic the resolution will not be enough to read the disk as the area of the picture is 20m2 of road and the disk 4cm x 5cm . You are left with 7kb of info over the disc . A 7kb file is not enogh to provide the resolution needed to read anything.

Try it - reduce a picture to 7kb and see what you have.

Urban myth.

Received my account with photo's in the mail over the weekend. Four copies and about 20 printed pages, for the same account. Some from the front, some from the back. You can almost see me giving them a one fingered salute in the one pic.. I have no tag and have not registered..

As their vehicle detection systems in each gantries uses IR sensors to check the vehicle height (and classify the vehicle type accordingly)

If one uses a roof-rack bike-carrier, would the scam-ral gantries billed such passenger vehicle with the same rate as a truck?

It would appear so , if you exceed the height you will be billed as a truck, and according to the OP, if you have an e-tag forever afterwards unless you contact SANRAL and fight it each time you go under the gantries with a bike on top!

IMO this clearly shows the incompetence of the system, they take whatever method they choose to decide on vehicle, when in fact there is already in place system with the existing toll roads, just shows that some clever foreign dude made this choice and our Sanral said yes sir three bags full sir............. This also flies in the face of the enatis system that's already in place.......

It's lekker messy.....
