Hi

I would be interested to hear some opinions on this.

Like everyone else I received my argus start time on the 11 Feb.

I clicked on his icon ' Please go to http://seeding.cycle.../findme.aspx?ss

to see what events they used for my seeding.

To my surprise they used the 2014 99er time and my 2013 Argus time, the only 2 seeding events I had, since I chose not to renew my ppa memebership after being a member for many years.

I was under the impression 2013 99er is an official seeding event for 2014 argus tour.

Also on the list was 2013 Argus Tour and some other races across the country. It seems pointless doing a seeding event if the gap between argus tour and the official seeding event is more than 6 months ,otherwise you will incur a penalty.

Did anyone check their seeding and notice something similar.

Just be glad they used your 2014 99er and not your 2013 one because the seeding on that would be lower because of the penalties. Your 2014 99er is probably also better than your 2013 Argus, which is why they used it, so that works to your benefit.

My seeding used the 2014 99er as well, in addition to PPA funrides _not_ listed as seeding events. They don't officially declare this on their website but it was included in the seeding mail sent out earlier this week.

Recent events having a higher ranking ito seeding is a better indication of current ability than a ride a year ago. And the organisers expanding seeding to include a wider sample of race results is a good thing. Hopefully there will be less merging between the bunches because seeding is more accurate.

but then why is it not on the official list of seeding races? I can understand the logic provided above as to why they used it, but then why not afford cyclist the opportunity to plan for these things instead of finding out after the fact.

I think the new way of seeding will give more accurate results, and a smoother flow of the Argus. It is not perfect, but it is a fairer reflection than what we had before.

What confuses my own seeding, is the fact that I race some on my own (read fast-ish) and some with my sons (read slow-ish).

They take your best 3, not your last 3. So doing a slow ride with family shouldn't affect your index negatively.

Capricorn, clearly you are upset with your low seeding. Take a chill pill, everybody got grouped in the same way based on their index. Nobody knew they would use all the PPA races, so it's not like you and you alone got a bad deal. Stop farting against thunder and enjoy the ride.

Ps: the only real fun ride on the calendar is the Argus lately.

I know, only trouble is, I need someone to blame for not getting an A seeding, and I enjoy blaming my 2 teenagers ;) After all, they blame me for everything else :D

I got a penalty of 9 and am starting in a way lower group than last year even though I am a stronger cyclist.

They used my Burger time from 2012 and ignored my Argus time from last year where I finished middle of my seeded group .... yet now I am 7 groups back ....

anyways ...

Do you guys go do races just to be seeded for the Argus?? is the argus everything?? why not do other races because you enjoy cycling and racing and in doing so supports local cycling and creates more interest.? or is the argus the "be all and end all" ??

As much as you don't like it, the seeding system makes a lot of sense, and it rewards the guys who are out there racing more frequently and are making an effort.

You are placed in a GROUP based on your current index, not where you previously placed in a group.

I think the most valid criticism is that they are not properly communicating on how they calculate the seeding. I think most people didn't expect last years Argus and other official seeding events to get time penalties for being older than 6 months, that could have been communicated more clearly.

Regarding the official / non-official events. My seeding is 100% based on the Burger, even though I do a lot of other PPA rides. So my thinking is that one good ride on an official event will count 100% towards your Argus seeding, while doing non-official rides you need at least 3 good times to get a full seeding. So there is still a clear benefit in doing the official seeding races.

All else being equal what would you say is the best indication of someone's current riding ability, the race they did a week ago or a race they did a year ago

Same here thank goodness I ended with the main group in % so got a VB seeding. Friend of mine ended 3 minutes back and got B.

Not complaining at all. Started in F last year, again seeded in F, so I in actual fact improved (going by everyone's logic/explanations)

edit: And not one official Seeding race was used, but my last three PPA races (where I did fairly well and is a true reflection of my CURRENT condition)
