Ride for Sight littering

This was a ride for sight?

On a more serious note, I had this same issue during the 947 last year. Horrible to see how little respect people have for their image, the image of the sport and the poor people who have to come clean up after you.

On the MTB races I note that the littering is getting less, so welldone on that guys, lets show these roadies how the cleaner species ride!

Haha, no, that was for Tuks 21km (or most running road races for that matter)

this weekend at Cowhouse market (Hazeldean trails) I found a packet discarded by one of the fellow bikers on the trail.  Was a USN Packet of Gu.   I was slow enough to make the stop and pick it up.  I can just imagine a cow on Gu that was left in that packet, it might get a liking to Gu and hijack cyclist for the gooey substance.

And it is becoming more and more of a problem as I see more an more litter around the farm, and not seeing many other people on the closed circuit it must be filthy mountain bikers as it is on parts where the walkers can't get to.

There is NO excuse for littering while cycling!!!!!!!!!!

We have enough inconsiderate, selfish, filthy souls littering our beaches and towns  already.

Those that cycle should/MUST be punished!!!!!!!!!!

(Rant over- very sore point with me!)

Ja I agree. Spoke to two cyclists who I saw intentionally littering. They argued that there are staff who will pick up later, and everyone does it.

Have forgotten their numbers. But I can't understand how difficult to put the wrapper in the pocket (I ride with a bag for rubbish in my pocket) or under the cuff of the bibs. Chuck it at the water points.

Evening everyone. I'm rider VB502. I normally do not litter my sachets and do not have an excuse for Sunday during the race. I apologies for that and I actually did not do that further in the race.

Well, this beats the heck out of some first posts... and on a Monday nogals!!

On a positive note, we ran Northcliff area late yesterday afternoon and ran a few sections of pirates 21km route, we could not spot a trace of litter from the Pirates 21km, big up to competitors and organisers for keeping the route clean.

I will admit that I was guilty of littering yesterday. I dropped one of my GU packets. Fell out of my hand when I was taking a breath. Was still half full  :(

The other empties all went back into the pocket as per usual though.

Watch the pros on TV. They toss their stuff everywhere. At one TDF a lot of them tossed their empty bottles into a river as they rode past

Please elaborate on the point you are trying to make. I want to understand before just assuming you mean one thing and have a go at you because of it.

I understand accidents happen and that occasionally rubbish gets dropped unintentionally. I don't expect anyone going at 30km/h to pull over and pick up a packet of gel; mostly because it's too dangerous with a gazilion other cyclists in a bunch. But when someone purposely takes out a gel or whatever, consumes it and discards it like on olympic javelin thrower I get hot under the collar. It shows total disrespect to everyone else not to mention the potential danger to wildlife and the eyesore it creates. I always wonder if these people behave the same way at home; ie do they live in a rubbish dump? Or do they have someone constantly cleaning up behind them?

I don't get the point you're trying to make? If it's okay for pro's to do (which it isn't) it should be okay for the rest of us? So as your dog takes a dump in your backyard would it be okay if I came and did the same?

They now have designated toss zones in races like TDF etc. If the riders are seen throwing outside of those zones they get a financial fine.

EDIT: Only been like this the last 2 odd years though.
