Please don't flame me for this silly question!!

I know its a hell of a strange heading for a topic, but I have no idea!!

Did 2013 Argus in 6hrs 01, Did 2014 Argus in 4hrs40min with my bikes front derailleur busted and my chain stuck on the big ring.

Also didn't do that much training, probably 8 70 to 80km training rides and a couple of the Tuesday night sessions at Killarney.

Want to up my game considerably during the course of this year and do more races. I am 45, started smoking again.

Looking for some sort of idea of what factors affect the target I set myself, and are there training programmes that include the off Season?

Simple really, time in the saddle.

The more you put in the more you get out.

Your weight will drop, you will probably kick smoking, you will have more energy, you will see yourself improve and progress further and get quicker as you get fitter. Your training prrograms will evolve over time too, and you will have loads of fun and spend small fortunes upgrading your toys.

I brought my August time down from my 1st time of 6:35 to 3:23 and from bottom quarter of finishers to top quarter which is as good as i was going to get it. IMO It is a fun ride but sometimes its good to have a go.

Set yourself an intermediate goal to keep you motivated through winter.

Something like Karoo2coast in September will give you something to work towards and if you keep it up consistently you will hit summer in good shape to take on the quality work you will need to do to improve your Argus time.

A year from now is long enough to hit your genetic limitations if you work hard enough

It was a joke, right?

enter something really big. scary big even. that way you train not allways because you want to, but because you're scared shitless of raceday... you'll also train yourself right out of the smoking habit

that's why so many suckers out there will be riding 200km this weekend...

you have two options - grow about 20 cms, or lose about 15 kg :-)

No, without kidding - anything is possible, my first Argus was six hours, on Sunday I finished sub 3:30. All I did was get up during the week, cycle up Table Mountain and Signal Hill, 28 kms, 700 m, and did that 3-4 times a week. Didn't do any long training rides before the Argus, and shaved off another 20 minutes this year. You can do it!

Shall we start a sub 3 training group?

You don't need to weigh 70 kg for a sub 3:30

Does it help?? YES

IS IT A MUST .?

Not even close

Vetseun, I see you like this comment, a 3:20 weighing a 100 kgs is fairly easy, I did it about 2 years ago, but going 3:15 and faster will require a serious commitment to training and weight management
