so here is the thing, i am a lard ass at between 95 and 98kg. Depending on the day and i am doing about 6 to 15hrs per week.

What wheels to go for?

ZTR Arch or Crest?

The ZTR Arch EX wheelset has a weight limit of about 105kg while the Crests have a limit of about 86kg.

I would say that you are in Arch EX territory.

Unless you only ride smooth roads on a Sunday with your granny...

Here is the question then what makes a stronger wheel? A light one well built or an heavy one not so well built? Where do the ZTR's fail?

I had 26" ZTR Olympics that were bullet proof, apart from the lips if I was running to low a pressure.

Currently running about 1.4 bar in front and 1.6 at the rear with Icons on fulcrums.

That is like comparing apples with oranges, why would be one less well built than the other? They are given weight limits based on the rim profile cross section.

Go the Stans website and have a look at the rim cross sections for crest and arch and others and you will see that they are all different and designed accordingly with regard to weight limits.

A friend of mine went through the same recently, he weighs around 85KG but still chose the ArchEX, the few grams difference in weight should be worth the extra strength?

Absolutely!

A little bit of reliability & peace of mind make for a more enjoyable ride.

Been between 100kg and 115kg and been using ZTR Flow which have been excellent! Very strong and never experience any problems and I ride them hard!
