Dear Mr. Corleoni

Of all the
noms de plume
to choose from you decide that being known, as a gangster is most apt for you. So tell me how is this
nom de plume
working for you?

I am not sure how the LBS shop in Australia, ‘forced me to buy a new bike’ especially as you suggest I knew my bike was fake before going into the shop in the first place? After being presented with the fact that the bike that was sold to me was fake; this is how Cycle Science proposed to remedy the matter as received from their attorney Vaughan Hattingh.

“However, entirely without prejudice to our client’s rights (which are reserved) we are instructed to propose, as we hereby do, that our client forthwith market and sell the bicycle (excluding the group set) for and on your clients behalf. Once the bicycle is sold our client shall pay to your client the entire proceeds of the sale which our client estimates should, given the prevailing market conditions and taking into account your client’s substantial use of the bicycle, fetch between R 25 000.00 and R 28 000.00.

So presumably they see nothing wrong in the selling of counterfeit goods. When it comes to ‘jeopardising someone’s livelihood’ your ignorance of law is superseded by your ignorance of economics. It is Cycle Science that is threatening the livelihood of every honest bike shop. What of the bike shops that have closed or downscaled owing to fraudulent competition?

Why aren't you upset for them?

I have taken responsibility for getting my money back, Cycle Science have until tomorrow to refund me, failing which I will issue a summons. Sadly, as I mentioned in an earlier post, ‘when all options are bad, people are prepared to take a gamble’. Might I suggest that up until this point this strategy hasn’t been working too well for Cycle Science?

But you are right on one point, I only have myself to blame, let the buyer beware is as true today as it was a hundred years ago.

Ok this is getting better. We all know that dealing in fakes is illegal, but their lawyer who should know the law (reasonable assumption ) makes himself an accomplice by drafting a letter where they propose a further sale of an illegal fake? WTF!

I have been told that there are only 6 or 7 companies in the world that make carbon frames, cycle manufacturers design and have their frames built by these few companies, but us consumers can buy the exact same frame from those companies for a lot less and we can even have these frames painted to match the more expensive ones, is this true? I am considering bringing in a frame for a custom build, would I be making a big mistake?

Just filled up with petrol at the garage across the way from them, business as usual it seems.

Probably pretty quiet there today...

E.) All of the Above

another question, what are we hoping for here:

Cycle Science close down?

A scare to other bike shops?

Money back?

They must go to jail?

All of the above?

Personally, I just want a nice pair of real carbon clinchers for around R11k. But that has nothing to do with this thread, unless CS has some real carbon clinchers which they need to sell quick to pay Andrew the refund. :)

All this attention for a fake bike! I wonder if all you "Fake Bike Activitists" out there put this much effort into bigger issues like the state of our roads, corruption, etolls, rape, farm murders, the secrecy bill, the state of our nation etc. or are you silent and complacent on these issues.

Yes, this is correct - You can also buy Apple stuff out the back door in China but marketed under the name Crapple :whistling:

i dont know the facts so cant completely disagree with that statement but i suspect you have been lied to. perhaps 6 or 7 actual respected, " we have quality control" companies but a chinese copy is still a chinese copy. 9 times out of 10 they are crap and put together in the fastest cheapest way possible

*Facepalm* I heard from a reputable bike shop owner on TV that the fakes ride better than the real thing. They come out of the same factory, and are the same quality.

Please go ahead and purchase a back door china frame, its 100% the same as the real deal, except for the BB, rear stays, rear hanger, carbon lay up, cable ports.

We do what we can...

But if you actually read all the posts, its got very little to do with a fake bike. It has everything to do with spineless, 'boggerol-integrity' business practices, fraud, corruption, and customers being done in by idiots wanting a quick buck.

So after you read the entire thread you are welcome to get back on your high horse.

Edit: added whats really on my mind

Would this not fall under corruption?

Maybe click around a bit on the Hub and you will see we also care about girls on bikes, stuff we have just bought, the cape epic and the classic's. All very big issues.

Thanks for your input :)
