i have also cancelled my DSTV subscription.

total waste of money. they are so far behind the times and the repeats drive me to drink.

will be following this thread very closely...

til then the best option is live commentary via a typed feed.

they are very good at keeping you up to date in front of a laptop at work

Install xbmc on your laptop. Get sportsdevil, mashup, navix addons. All channels available. You can even output to a TV. Or get a droid TV box with xbmc installed and do the same. Quality of the streams not the greatest but I watch on a 46 inch TV and don't mind the quality. Better than paying R750 for 4 hours of racing a month

As stated, buy an android tv box or raspberry pi and install xbmc http://xbmc.org/, you can also install on a laptop or computer or tablet and connect to your tv.

Takes a while to understand xbmc as you have to load "addons" to get what you want as it is fully customisable to your needs. The addons of most interest are

Expat TV - gives you all the UK channels

F.T.V - All the UK channels and others

Mashup - all the movies, series and sport

Sportsdevil - All the sports

Filmon - lots of channels

USTVNow - all US TV

Navi-X - Anything and everything, although the server has been down for a while now

Once all the addons have been installed, also install TVGuideDixie - which will install an EPG TV guide and you are fully able to customize it and link your channel streams to channels so that you have a program guide of what is on based on your channels preferences.

There are many online instructions and YouTube of how to install the addons, once you have done one the rest becomes easy. Certain communities like http://www.xbmchub.com/ and http://www.xunitytalk.com/forum.php have installers which automate a lot of the installation of the other addons, which makes it even easier.

Minimum line speed would recommend 2mbs, quality of some of the streams is not HD but not bad, occasionally there is buffering and is often channel dependent on where the stream comes from.

Within the mashup addon is buzzy sports, has all the sky sports channels inc F1 as well as Eurosport and others. If not working in buzzy sports try Kim105 in mashup, else search on Sports Devil

Has been discussed at length here too http://www.thehubsa....-entertainment/

If you really get into it you can also automate searching and downloading of latest series, movies etc.

You can stream all of the above and have watched quite a bit of cycling too.

sportlemon.tv

yes you can! ... just use a PC or a laptop and you can view from your browser (mostly using the Flash player), there are a few streaming sites (www.sportcategory.com is another one), sometimes they need a bit of teasing and patience, since they are not really legit as such, you have to close pop-up ads and then full screen, the quality can vary considerably. Forget about HD quality for live streaming right now.

RedBull TV works much better (for UCI mtb events and also the FMB series), also quite a few events (road and mtb) in the USA are being streamed are using the YouTube live streaming service which works great.

What you can do to view HD of your fav cycling events is d/l the caps (captures) from cyclingtorrents.nl for later viewing and reviewing, (I have watched the last 60 k's of last weeks PR about 5 times :o )

For (road) live streaming updates follow Pete Geyer@cyclingfans or keep an eye on his web site www.cyclingfans.com and follow Reb Bull for news on their events.

ps I have HD caps of most recent events (Classics, T-R, .Pmb mtb) you can come get from me gratis if you are in Jhb, please pm me

Would like to add it is not plug and play and takes some time to configure xbmc and you have to do it for every TV that you want internet based streaming on, whether computer, laptop, tv box, pi or tablet.

I have raspberry pi's on a couple of tv's so people can whatch what they want in different rooms.

The nice thing about a raspbery pi is that all data is stored on an SD card, once you have set it up as you want it on one of the machines, you can clone the card and copy to others, so makes configuring for each pi easy. Also if the software gets corrupted, is easy to reformat the SD card and reload your configuration.

Xbmc once running is easily controlled by yout tablet or phone using one of the many remote control apps :)

Internet based tv is not perfect as it is reliant on a community finding a working stream and making it available for others through the xbmc addons, so somedays a channel may not work, but will be back up and running soon enough... and if that stream is down you can always search for that stream in another addon that you have installed.

Sometimes more patience than what I have is needed.

I have seen that it is best to get the channels sorted a few minutes before you want them because they can be finicky.

Will look into the xbmc now though, but I don't have a fixed internet connection at home so mostly just watch the early morning or late night MotoGP/F1 races with my USB modem.

XBMC with Mashup add on works for me.I started to do setup during the long weekend.XBMC on the laptop connected via HDMI on my Flatscreen.Works fine for now. But want do build a dedicated pc for the live streaming.

I know it would depend on what you are watching, but what type of data usage are we looking at? I have a 2mb uncapped account on mweb. They have throttled my account before after 130gb of usage few months ago.But I usually do not go above 60gb a month.

Or, ask a mate who has a premium DStv account if you can use his login details on SuperSport.com (he probably doesn't even have it set up so you may need to just set up an online account linked to his smart card number). You can then access the live stream and watch anything that's on Supersport on your laptop, streamed to your TV or directly on your iPad using the app. Cycling, rugby, cricket… the resolution isn't that great but it's passable, especially if you're watching on your phone or iPad (plus you can watch while you're standing in the queue at Woolies ;)

Did that for a while .. but really time to move on from P&P. Eurosport is excellent. often features Sean Kelly
