Guest EdEdEd Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Because English is the accepted language for the majority of business dealings in SA. And a lot of english speakers can't speak afrikaans for shizz, whereas the majority of afrikaans speakers can speak & write pretty good english.i.e. we are smarter.... javadude and Wannabe 2

Stretch Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 it stands to reason that since Afrikaans is the 2nd (or is it the 3rd) most spoken language in the country that the majority will be Afrikaans speaking here..but as Armpies says..english is the universal language for business and communications worldwide...and I do believe that Matt Admin is English as well..so I guess that is the main reason and www.diedingesindimiddelvandiewiel.co.za doesnt really work Captain Fastbastard Mayhem, ichops, Catatonic_Joe and 4 others 7
Jakkals. Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 Depends in where in SA.. over here in the platteland. . ENG folk have no option but to be able to communicate in Afr, whereas some of the afr people battle with Eng. Thats true, when I joined the reserve force, not so long ago while i was still a student to get some browns. one question was which religion are you, my mate from wollies said, Vrystaat. I crack myself everytime I think about it. He could only read English, couldnt write or speak it.

Wayne Potgieter Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Honest Question.... Do the Afrikaans folks on the hub, find the Term "Dutchman" offensive?
HowellingWulf Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 WOULD NEVER HAVE TAKEN YOU FOR A DUTCHIE Dutchie from Durban originally. Speak die Taal with a bit of an English accent. We used to get donnerd as lighties when speaking Afrikaans so pretty much stuck to English outside school and home. At varsity one of my ex's from die platteland old lady remarked that I speak pretty decent Afrikaans for a soutie. I was like ja well, being Afrikaans I've only been doing it for the last 20 years or so.... Was pretty much close to the end of the relationship... DIPSLICK and FeK9 2
RocknRolla Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Honest Question.... Do the Afrikaans folks on the hub, find the Term "Dutchman" offensive? only if preceeded with "Jou F*#$en" I prefer clutchplate tho, or boertjie. Haryback not so much, because I cant relate.... Chro Mo and FlandersZA 2
