Doing my restricted license assessment today.

Strangely nervous.

The license process here is pretty long. About 12 to 18 months from nothing to full.

Three different physical assessments. Three eye tests and one theory test.

All while riding a lower power bike. Not allowed to own anything larger than a 660cc or lower than a certain power to weight ratio.

Passed it.

Now I need to ride for twelve months before attempting the full locense.

Don't you have a SA motorcycle license or is this your first motorcycle license hence the reason for doing the test?

Nice! Is that a 2015 Husky 501?

Which Nav Tower kit is that? Highway Dirt Bikes?

I wish I could find a low hour 2014-2016 Husky 501 in New Zealand. I love my 350, but it's on 300hrs now, and I'd like that extra grunt. I have also spend way too much on accessories (rally tower & fairing, long range tank, steg pegs, etc) to trade it in for a newer model.

KTM 790 Adventure R pricing has recently been revealed in New Zealand.

NZ$23 000 (around R217 000)... yikes!!

Considering that a 1090 Adv R was retailing for around that 1yr ago, it's pretty steep.

Any idea what the pricing for the 790 Adv R is looking like in SA?

Well....It is a lot of money, granted, but when you put it against the R300K odd for the new GS 1250, it sort of seems OK. Sort of...

Didn't you say you wanted to stick a 350 YPVS motor into an R3 chassis....

So here's an idea.  And it's only R4500....

Bet I've got you thinking now....

So seeing as it's a new year, we get to play "If I had lots of money to do an engine swap" game again.

So these guys https://dirtbikemagazine.com/amp/brc-ktm-500cc-2-stroke-conversion-two-stroke-tuesday/ have built an excellent 500cc conversion based on an existing KTM250/300 engine - the reviews have been outstanding.

So, in my imaginary garage next to the YZ250 twin which I will get Allen Millyard to make for me (google him!) I will have a KTM390 Duke with a BRC 500cc two-stoke engine....

Noooooo! This makes me wanna cry!

New Zealand doesn't have import duties on foreign vehicles, so theoretically I could ship one over.

The catch comes in at road registration. All vehicles need a SOC (Statement of Compliance), simply stating that the vehicle has all necessary features for public road use. That then allows them to be registered. They also need a WOF (Warrant of Fitness), basically a roadworthy.

For cars it's pretty easy to get the SOC. For bikes the importers need to issue it, and most of them state that they won't unless it's a bike which one owned for a certain period back in country of purchase etc etc. Basically they're trying to prevent grey imports and cash in on their ludicrous prices.

Congrats!

Yeah the restricted is a bit nerve-wracking. So much that they assess.

What area did you do yours in? (I did the west area, starting at Westgate)

Did you go on a RideForever bronze before the test?
