Is that the 800 S?

The Parralel 800 is a gem of a motor. Had the 800s for a day just after they came out. What a bike. You can ride that motor for 100 000 miles plus easily...The Akra on the bike is great, I'm absolutely in love with the sound of the akra on my 8gsadv.

Enjoy!

blah ... 100 000 miles and you have just broken in a Harley Engine :P

Busy setting this up on a spare phone now, and it looks to be working.

So used the old cell as a GPS unit ... works fine, but at some point it struggled to establish connection .. though it did keep showing my GPS location in relation to the plotted route, which is really are you need.

After the ride I realised I was being a dork, I should just use my new phone in my pocket as a Hotspot and then I will have the full function on the old cell phone.

The idea of the old cellphone is that the camera on there can rattle and shake to bits and it really does not matter.....and if some scumbag tries to steel it at a traffic light, then it is not the end of the world.

Well. Warm weather and a bank holiday weekend can only mean one thing. Some fine riding. Visited the ACE on way up north. Ace for breakfast and super sausage for lunch taking a nice ride around Oxford and parts of the Cotswold area. Beautiful in the sun and loaded with history.

Bought the BM about 15 months ago. 2019 model with 114 miles on the clock. To go touring with wife but not done much and only on 1367 miles now. Yesterdays 300 mile bimble returned figures of 17 miles to a litre. I was well surprised. Admittedly kept to speed limits with a few spirited spurts. What a lekker motorbike. Wonder why bm did not sell zillions.

I try to get to the Ace when I am in London. So, not too often then. Each time I wonder why I bother, food is shite, service not much better, yet I feel I need to get some stickers or a T Shirt…………must be better to arrive on a bike, train and walking perhaps not the way! Anyways, next time in Londinium I will trundle down to The Bike Shed for a gander!

Yeah. The Ace is very much a basic transport cafe trading on its legacy. Food is simple I just normally have beans on toast. Tea or coffee is nothing special. But it has history and it’s a place I can relax at and chill with other like minded people. It’s the historical value. My parents in law used to go to the ace in late 50s and early 60s so has a personal appeal for me.

it has a lekker vibe. That’s why I go. To chill and the vibe.

bike shed a different experience altogether. Very lekker spot too. Upmarket. Good food. Chesterfields to chill on. Lots to look at too. Well worth a visit.

Can anyone recommend a bike mechanic in Cape Town who specialises in older BMW's?

My old '81 R100CS has been sadly standing in the garage for some time and the list of things that need to get done has got longer and longer and I've realised I'm not going to get to them myself...

TIA

Apologies for the formatting but just copied and pasted. Both Jandre and Alf seem to be highly regarded

So this arrived yesterday. It's in a bit of a state and is going to need some work, but an afternoon of tinkering had it running nicely (and the smell of burnt 2 stroke oil was lingering in the air! :D).  It's a late 70's/early 80's Italjet. My 6 year old is very excited!

Question: Is it OK to run these old 2 strokes on unleaded petrol or do you need to put in that lead additive?  If I remember correctly, the leaded petrol was needed to lube the valves in the 4 stoke engines or something like that, so I'm guessing 2 stokes would not be so fussy?

So this ended up sitting in my garage unused... On his first attempt to ride it, my son fell over and the rear wheel gave him a small roastie on his leg. Bought him a second hand set up boots, but I couldn't get him on it again.

Until Saturday...  I was watching a bike review on Revzilla on Youtube and my son was watching with me and about halfway through he says, "Dad, what protective gear did you get me for the motorbike?" So i tell him and then he says, "When this program is over, can I try ride the motorbike again?" 😃

45 min later (and thank goodness the bike started!) this happened:

Whoop whoop! 🥳

Now he's keen to go ride somewhere proper... So I'll try get him out to Dirt and Dust one weekend soon...

And then later he says to me, "Dad, if we go riding somewhere, I'd feel safer if you were riding with me. I think you should buy a bike so you can ride too!" 😁 Hmm... can't let my boy down now, can I?? 🤣

Can't fault the youngsters logic that's for sure

(K)NIGHT RIDER

I had a late meeting out in Durbanville this evening, and instead of going past Dunoon at night I decided to take a slight detour.

Went via Meerendal, the hooked a right up Malanshoogte. This road turned into a gravel road, which I was not expecting, then left onto Adderly and then via Philadelphia and Melkbos to home again.

What a special evening. When cresting the hill from Meerendal, the vista opened up and showed a deep red skyline with the sun setting over the bay. The light faded shortly after this, into a deep dark night.

All along the route, farmers were out plowing their fields with brightly lit mechanical monsters, tilling soil that you could smell when passing by. (Pick below is not of the plows, but other tractors doing "farm work" in support of the bigger machines.)

What a special evening, and what a special bike ride.

Excellent lights on that Harley, well, compared to my KTM type candles.

A simple LED bulb upgrade that my mechanic also runs a year warranty on. Was R500 for the set, and money really well spent.
