bells on bikes

I have a bell...

 

Runners, please take your earphones out while running. 90% of all runners i come across run with it in their ears... They are totaly oblivious to anything happen around them

 

i have a 150db air horn on my bike.....i scare the cr@p out of everybody.....motorist, cyclist, runners, cows, baboons, dogs... all give way.. and sometimes i have to go back and apologies for scaring them... but only if they hot;)

Thats all well and good but I think runners should be made to wear bells on their ankles so that we can hear them coming.

Can't agree more. We runners should never wear headphones. It's actually a rule when we race.

Which area are you referring to? Where are you having a problem?

 

 

 

I assume by mentioning hikers, dogs, etc. the OP is referring to singletrack or jeeptrack.

 

I am thinking of any single tracks that are shared with bikes. It's not that I have a problem, I think it will just make sharing the space easier.

If runners are passing you on singletrack you're doing it wrong...

 

Back on topic, are there any decent bells out there? I've seen the Spurcycle one, but it's moerse expensive and mail order only, and most of the locally available ones are made of cheese. I'd love to stock a few, but I refuse to sell poo.

It's about making each other aware of each other!

I run past other runners (of course they never run past me) & they've got their headphones in, wrap around shades on and cap pulled down over what's left of their face & they jump out of their skin when I go past. I'll try & educate the runners on another forum.

Trust me when I say we want to get out of your way as much as you want us to get out of your way.

I think a world wide ban on running should solve the problem. Its no fun and it wears out really nice shoes , very quickly. It makes full grown men wear really tiny ,brightly colored shorts,which is not ok! No running allowed = no runners.problem solved:) stop this senseless torture of tekkies.

This is one of my biggest gripes about runners/joggers who use the cycle path - because they are off the road both earphones get plugged in deep and the volume turned up load - do yuor selves a favour - at least use only one earphone

I have resorted to a whistle on a lanyard tied to my back pack .... or if this is at home I mimic a barking dog ... that works well!
