Very nice day out. I found it much less technical than W2W (translation = I didn't fall). My partner took strain but got his best time ever. He wanted to get closer to 4h. I tried to pace us but it is my first time on the route so that was a challenge.

Our official time? 04:00:00.

His comment? But we didn't break 4. Bloody cyclists.

Chatted to Eldron. Looking good. Only real MTB'ers takes a leisurely leak 2 kays before the finish.....!!! It is not about the time bru.

Anybody got news on Nic Bac, I hear he landed up in ICU with a broken back?

Just got this update on facebook, get well Nic!

Update on Nic Bac:

He's ok mentally. Pretty badly injured though. We will only find out later how badly, at this stage it appears that he has 15 broken ribs, collapsed lungs, broken R shoulder, broken L femur, broken back and can't move or feel from the midriff down. He did get some pain in his groin last night and did feel an injection in his left leg, so that's positive at least. They drained off 2 litres of fluid from his lungs yesterday and are now waiting for him to recover from that before they begin operating - hopefully that will be today. Only then will we get a clearer picture as to the state of his injuries. Obviously how damaged his spine is the the most important info we need to get. He is in ICU at PMB Mediclinic, and is in good hands. I'll let you all know as soon as I get further info. Thanks for all your concern and messages - I will surely pass them on to Nic.

The accident happened about 40kms into the first day, on a downhill district road with a sharp bend to the left at the bottom over a bridge over a river. Nic says he was going too fast, didn't make the turn, and went off the edge of the bridge ( he says it was a cliff) and fell onto the rocks in the river below. Will keep you all updated here on FB.

that corner is famous for accidents...but but usually people lose control before the bridge and go into the bush. It is usually marked quite well warning people of imminent danger..so I sincerely hope that with the "find your own way" option this year they didnt neglect to put up the warnings

Jeez, that is a hectic accident.

Yep, that corner after that downhill is tricky to negotiate. Stretch is right. Although Sani is Self navigated, hopefully danger signs are not left off.

Hope for a Full recovery.

Obviously I went much slower, but during joBerg2C I found that seeing the maps helped a lot in warning when steep turns are coming up - especially on downhills.

Sjoe, those are some very serious injuries - hope he recovers so that he can go back to ride the other tracks he's now missing out on :(

Finished the ride - day 3 was really fun! Nice fast flowing track.

Pitty about the massive congestion on the descent on day 2 - was a nice walk I suppose. After all the hype it was a bit of a let down .

But met some great people ( some even know of the hub!)

Now to sleep...
