Hello All,

So I ride a Momsen AL529, 2012 model and hell its been an exemplary awesome boney. I have ridden many many miles with it, including berg and bush.

Now, I entered tour de tuli, coming up in 2 weeks and duly took my bike for a service, for now that shop will stay nameless, and one of the things I specifically asked for was to true and dish my wheels. When I got the bike back a spoke broke within 1st 50m of my ride…. GGGRRRRRR, anyway, spokes do break but when I felt the tension on the spokes it felt very very tight. I took it back and they charged me for replacement spoke, not happy, but I paid.

This morning I replaced my back tire with a tire of have used before and to my utter frustration find that the dish on the wheel is out by about 10mm and wheel won't turn cause its rubbing so hard against frame.

I phoned shop and crapped on them from dizzy height, and they want to blame my ZTR's. I mean really, maybe they not the best wheels but they certainly not worst either. I think they just did a crappy job.

Do I bother taking it back to them or should I rather go somewhere else??

Anyway, put old tire back so I can at least ride this weekend, but now I have to address this issue next week.

So irritated.

Regards

Bullcrap (unless they were properly toast, in which case they should have told you and suggested a new set)

blame their wheel builder for not dishing it correctly. And not de-stressing the wheels before giving the bike back. Bad workmanship.

Take it to someone who knows wheels, get a second opinion, EARPIE is in your area just let him look, sometimes you must accept school fees and move on, maybe the shop simply does not have the skills or know how to pin point the problem, so taking it back would be pointless,

Have to agree with dipslick, most shops will tell you they can do it but reality is that they try but don't succeed

I stick to the smaller shops and specifically take my road bike to a shop that deals mostly in road bikes and the MTB will go to a more MTB specific shop.

I have one wheel guy. It took me a while to find him. He is the only person allowed to touch my wheels. Wheels are a bit of an art as far as I am concerned. Go to the recommended man and let him do it. Good luck.

wont you please PM his details, need a good wheel guy.

I feel your pain!

Theres nothing worse than having to go back to a shop when time is already so scarce during the weekdays due to work commitments. Weekends being so short already, it kills your riding time.

If your dishing was out by 10mm, thats a plain shite wheel build and a mechanic not even doing his job properly by not looking. How can he not notice that?

Theres nothing wrong with ZTR wheels

Hope you get sorted!

Spokes that break is something nobody can predict and the spoke tension will not necessarily be the cause .

The dishing being out, that's not on.

I have to ask how the dishing went out in the first place .............

Do agree with getting a decent wheel builder, makes a big difference. I took some advice from a couple of guys here 2 months or so Hairy being one and had a decent set of wheels built by a decent wheel builder. Best thing I did,I have ZTR Flow Ex rims and damn they are bomb proof.Just because 1 or 2 guys have issues with them doesn't mean they are bad.

It sounds like you are having a bike shop problem rather than a wheel problem.

If you are Fourways area (where i am and a lot of us are) then consider using Josh at Cyclists Workshop - he is now up the road near Northgate in the Nursery (he likes those sort of environments for some reason).

He has built a lot of my wheels for me and my mates, and i am not a small guy, so we have had some detailed discussion around whether I am going to have a life changing experience with my plans and designs. So far so good.

Wyatt Earp (the hubs own Sheriff) also a good guy.on this sort fo topic.

And its BS that ZTR are the issue.
