Nothing wrong with Specialized really, but they do have a bit of an image problem and the fact that instead of having a bike shop they have "concept stores" doesn't help, it is a bit pretentious.

Provide an example? Personally feel this whole 'overpriced' issue many have is when looking at the S-Works and elite range with all the carbon bling. In which case the pricing is pretty much within the same realm as most other brands.

On their more mid range bikes the spec and pricing is very competitive, Carve and the Epic Comp being a case in point.

In fact much of the apparel from the big S is also very competitively priced and exceptionally good stuff. Although I've found some of the products aren't that robust over time and tend to wear quicker.

Reckon a lot of the perception, especially on pricing is simply down to the big S being a victim of their own success and marketing.

Their high pricing is not a perception, its a fact. Those high prices are no in line with a low cost manufacturing base in Asia.

They supply three TdF teams and market their products very aggressively. The sticker price reflects that market approach

I have zero brand loyalty, that being said, I ended up with a spez helmet, spez gloves, purely due to price, weight (helmet) looks and if I liked them. I didnt even know about the stigma as I just started cycling then. So they cant be too bad as I bought them purely objectively.

I did get a pair of sworks shoes for road cycling as a birthday gift from the mrs, they are pretty damn incredible and I dont see myself spending that money on shoes so must make em last.

I think peeps are missing the point of this thread .... it is not about the product, but the vibe around it .... hence the word bandwagon in the thread heading.

Or I could be wrong.

The same as any other 'top tier' brand at the high end of the range, all of whom or at least most also use the low cost manufacturing processes in Aisia. Fact.

Many of their products have competitive pricing, performance and spec comparable to other brands and manufacturers, fact.

Plenty brands also supply and sponsor top teams and riders with aggressive marketing strategy. Fact

Yeah I get that, and it's understandable to an extent. The same way people can feel an emotional bond to a brand they can also feel that oppositely to a brand.

For me though, I'd rather get caught up in the vibe of riding than pursuing brand loyalty, sure I connect more to some than others. But as long it works on the trail, I'm happy.

Once it's covered in dirt it has the right vibe as for as I'm concerned, that extends to dates even :w00t:

OMG where did you get Spez undies?? Thats the last item of clothing I still need.

They're a limited edition... I got mine when I ordered my Spez duvet and pajamas ;)

On the over the top pricing just go have a look at what a team spec Cannondale will set you back let alone the Black inc models and suddenly an S-Works is a bargain.

Exactly, but since when do we let the truth ruin a good rant? ;)

People hate Spez because it's popular, few of the justifications for the hatred in this have held water.
