Could Strava lead to bike theft from your house?

How many bike theives in the RS of A would even think of using Strava to identify you and your bike? My thinking: almost none.

These guys park-off on street corners, where there is high volume of cyclists, identify their targets, learn your routines and strike when ready.

Alternatively, they're purely opportunistic and grab your bike when the opportunity presents itself.

Interesting...  Ever since I started using apps for running/cycling I would never start the tracking until 100m away from home and also end it 100m from home,  call it paranoia, but unknowingly had a good reason to do so.

The Privacy zone is a good idea.

So the poor people in the house where you start and stop 100m from your home are going to be the theoretical targets then... Don't you get on with them?

Hahahaha.. Luckily there are no residents there, rather a petrol station and quick spar.

is where you set the privacy zone - and it's pretty big - 500 - 1000m radius of the address you set... that's a lot of houses..

lets look at it this way,,,,if you look at your average sa family, you got a pretty good chance of getting a bike if you break in, just because you on strava it does not mean you on a dogma/venge, it just means you check your progress, and you like measuring competitions  personally i think that in sa "following strava" would sound like work to our tik babies, sitting under a tree drinking a ZAMALEG waiting for mr lawabiding citizen makes much more sense

After that "other" thread, I think my Epic and Tarmac are safe, no thief will want to be seen dead walking around with a Spez.

I agree - while there MAY be some targeting of bikes - I generally think its opportunistic rather than planned, and when your luck runs out.....

I do get kind of nervous when standing outside the gate waiting for the GPS to get signal in the morning....

Besides.... Eddie has a nicer collection than me.....
