Stand By Me was also covered by John Lennon. It was a massive hit in the70's.

Some work and some don't. Wycleff Jean's cover of Wish You Were Here by Floyd, and Limp Bizket's cover of Behind Blue Eyes by The Who just didn't do it for me.

Santana did a good job on Peter Green's Black Magic Woman.

Songbird and Dreams by Fleetwood Mac and Baby I love your way by Peter Frampton  covered a while ago , but I don't know by which artists.

Nice thread. Keeps me awake at night brushing away cobwebs.

Edit: Gimme Shelter is a great song . Was also covered by Grand Funk Railroad in the 70's.

Many years ago a young guy at work was listening to a compilation of religious rock music and a more mellow version of this song was one of them. No, he didn't like the Stones. Then I showed him that it was credited to somebody called Jagger Richards. Changed his mind a little , I like to think.

Another great collection of covers was done by the wedding present when they released the their hit parade series. The gedge put out a new 7" every month in the year...an original on one side and a cover on the other. Stand outs were the go betweens cattle and cane and julee cruse falling...gonna find it when I get home

Not necessarily better than the original, but the performance gave me goosebumps!http://youtu.be/DQ1Oz6K4rOI

Yeah, very good. The original, however, is to my mind the greatest vocal thing ever done. Put on a good set of headphones, and play the original acoustic version, just to yourself. Yoh.

Most of Bob Marley hits that zone.

The man was an Enigma.
