Aaaaah David Gilmour..... Surely, along with Roger Waters wrote some of the most memorable, soul-stirring music ever!

You just CANNOT mistake his playing style for anyone else.

Careless whisper. Seether nailed it

interesting thing here is that a few years back Shaun morgan Welgemoed commented that they still considered themselves an SA band, even though they're US based and only play a handful of shows if that per year here. He went on to say that they're a little miffed that they had at that stage never won a SAMA award - whereas wonderboom got plenty with cover albums!

well they now have SAMAs and recorded covers

I think this is the greatest thread I've ever started!!!

(Most of)These are awesome!!

I'm in retail and don't spend much time in my office, but between 6pm and 7pm it's my cash up time and now thanks to you guys, specially Anton,  I've got tons of great choons... thanks... keep them coming.

yeah some great stuff that can be found on youtube.

For me there are a few categories of 'covers'.

Live versions of someone else's song. These are either one offs (hey we felt like playing this song) or staples that a band adopts.

Actually recorded covers - I think in the pre digital era this was more common as there was a need to quickly find B-sides for your next single and it was either reworking material that never made the album or just record your take on someone else's song. something like this, the results weren't always great - nowadays the barrier to entry for recording a song is so much lower, any tom dick and harry can put something up on youtube. most of them won't even go through a mixing desk.

either way it's been a great exploration of new music, even if plenty of it is old

some artists are just so damn unique that anything they do gets their fingerprint. someone like Eddie vedder has almost stepped out of his Pearl Jam box to become a solo artist of note on his own. He just kills covers in his live shows, but i think he only does 'one offs' on special occasions, don't think he would ever record one (could be wrong here).

Lemmy does it better than Metallica

Lemmy does a great job on this one but I feel the drummer throws it away here on this one .
