In good old hub handbag slinging....here goes.

So we entered a team for the DC. We had a limited budget and we only had enough kit for the riders and one for the sponsor.  As it goes we had to make quite a few replacements along the way. Luckily only ordered kit at the last possible time to limit the risk of having to swap out kit.  As I said in a mail to everyone, unfortunately you have to give back the kit OR pay the base cost of the kit if you want to keep it. If you opted for an upgraded kit and give it back we will replace the money you had to pay for the upgrade.  Its nice kit and one person that withdrew kept his kit paying in the difference.

One of the late replacements withdrew the Monday before the DC himself (injury, not blaming him). I sent him several mails, whatsapps (that he read) and voicemails which he completely ignored after that. Having lots of pressure at work and trying to put together an enjoyable DC experience it really annoyed (please insert expletive) me that he wasted me time like this. I once again left a voicemail and sent a whatsapp today asking what is up and when where I can pick up the kit. I told him, in no uncertain terms that its my opinion that he is being unreasonable that that I am fairly upset by his actions Seeing as he ignored me the previous week the new replacement had to ride in our sponsors kit and I want to swap it out asap. He only only mailed tonight saying that he read the mail (from last week) now and that he is not giving back the kit as he paid for it.  I replied (forwarding the mail sent to original team) saying that if he cant compete he will be refunded the R 275-00 if he gives the kit back or need to pay in the R 1300-00 odd if he wants to keep it. Keep in mind that he only rode 4 of the total 18 training rides.

What am I to do if he ignores me.

1. Send his brands he is 'ambassador' for a mail outlining what kind of person carries their brand.

2. Expose him on thehub. A bit of a dick move, but I feel future teams and other people need to know what type of person he is. I did find him on thehub after he advertised he is looking for a DC team.

3. Open a case of theft at the police station or small claims court

4. Let it go and pay for the sponsors  set out of my own pocket as I am being unreasonable.

5. Option 1, 2 and 3.

It will be the first time in "hubber" town's history if he get's name and shamed.

Always start with the name and shame but then fades away after 24 pages.

But as I know Fanie he will not disappoint!  :D

I want to know what happened to the running boobies avatar?

less important issues, like this chop giving you the run around after you helped him out from the hub are easily resolved with a name and shame.give him a quick ultimatum and then laat waai!

In future:

Let them pay full price for the kit upfront with the agreement that they get a refund if they don't pull out of the event

option 6.grow a beard man up and move along...life goes on.

Have the beard already ;-) Maybe follow you advice, but paying for another kit is going to sting. Especially since my company sponsored a fair amount and know the douche is effectively riding with my name on his chest.

in that case brother, call a snake a snake and name and shame the scum...

In a nutshell, he has taken the kit for R275 instead of R1575, knowing full well the terms and conditions with regard to the kit situation... And now will not honour those terms and conditions.

Have to agree with the others that there should be some recourse...so name and shame... If nothing else, as he is a hubber, it gives other hubbers an understanding of his character and to avoid doing any business with him

sorry I'm lost here !! so the kit is sponsored or partially sponsored, and the riders all give it back after the race. Is this normal and who is gonna use it afterwards......i'm thinking about those Bib shorts....not something i would even consider giving away after i've worn them.

Just a bit confused why the kit needs to be given back to the sponsor, surely thats waht a sponsor is.

But i do agree if the dude isn't doing it he should return it and get a refund.

Hi, quick clarification.  Riders could keep the kit after the DC.  It was my understanding that you actually had to do the race to qualify to keep it though.  The supplier had an expensive or normal option. Our budget allowed the normal option to be sponsored but little bit to be paid in if you wanted the more expensive option. I always try to be accommodating and gave the riders a choice.

I did send a mail to the team stating the budget constraints and that if you pull out due to any reason you have to give the kit back (and be refunded your upgrade money) or you can keep the kit, but pay in the part you were sponsored so that we can offer the same deal to your replacement. The only reason why I could offer the bloke free kit was because the person that pulled out before him paid in the difference and kept the kit.  This person joined our team very late though and did not receive this mail. I did however expect common courtesy and that he will be willing to help me out seeing as how I help him out and tried to make him part of a very close team.

Whatever the outcome is I hope he thinks of his actions. He is very young and everyone in the team liked him, he not only ignored me but others on the team as well. Everyone is a bit miffed at him for that. After this no one in the team will think much of him and he effectively alienated 11 cycling buddies. The cycling fraternity is not that big that you annoy (expletive) 11 people and word doesnt get around.

I sent him the link to the discussion so he is more than willing to engage or not.  I do not want this to become a mud slinging contest, but would really like to know what his thinking is.

What was the team name? I ran the same process you did for our team and can imagine it would be annoying if someone takes advantage. If he has alienated your group I would not think he would want to keep the kit.

We picked up one of the nicest guys off the hub two weeks before DC and he dished us out a world of pain on the DC!! Now just to keep up with him ;)
