If this was a school fight:

  • Marko would be the guy who walks away after a knockout punch.
  • OP is the guy on the floor, crying for help.
  • We missed the fight, and we're waiting to hear from eye witnesses exactly wtf happened.

I wanted to recommend another bike shop to OP - but maybe that will just fuel the fire!

I understand it, but I feel it is wrong to post it on the Hubsa without your explanation...

Maybe you irritate him or waste his time or expect too much from him...

He probably told you to leave and you did not want to leave, then he told you to F__k off...

Slander is verbal defamation. If in print, as per the OPs post, its Libel.

Not SA law. The SA principle is defamation, whether in print or verbal. There is no defamatory comment in the original post, unless Marco were to claim that he did not swear and that his reputation was diminished by Op's allegation that he did. Given the responses, we can accept that that is not the case. The law does not concern itself with trivialities.

Edit: the original post was ill-considered and clearly failed to take into account the ethos of the Hub. I think he has been rather severely castigated for his lapse.

I don't live in CPT and have never been to said LBS but from what I can see is Marco has WAY more positive comments than negative and the fact that the OP has gone off to nkandla to hide must say one thing. From the sideline as a betting man I'm going to root for MARCO from ACTION CYCLING. Come out of hiding OP I want to see some ACTION( hehe).

Im not saying the customer is always right, far from it in most cases. What I am saying is part of running a business is dealing with d1ckhead customers some of the time. Im sure we all have it at some point but I would be in a heap of crap if I swore at a customer (or colleague) even if they were 1000% in the wrong. I don't know the LBS or the writer

Any business owner should be as protective of their staff as they are of the customer, I have seen way too many cases of customers trying to drop staff in deep trouble over nothing.

Ding, ding! And Marco is highly protective of his staff's reputations. Especially when they're not there to defend themselves.

seems you know more than you are letting out as I know one of the staff members are off sick at the moment.

More accurately, no longer in south african law as of 2006 with publication of the Defamation Act 2005. In my view, there is diminished character by implication. It's these 'trivialities' that can sway potential clients. You can speak for yourself if you feel otherwise, but this is the court of public opinion.

I do love people that slander a person and LBS by name whilst hiding anonymously behind their hub name.

If you're gonna go the public slander route at least have the decency to tell the whole story and identify both parties.

Otherwise you come across as a twat who likes to put a balaclava on and sucker punch people from behind.

I've dealt with Marko and his team ever since I've gotten into dirt jumping, then DH, then trails, and still to this day (around 10 years if memory serves me correctly) have nothing but respect for the shop and team.  I've moved out of CTP, but when I go back, I pop in to see what they have on the floor and for a quick chat.  Always willing to help me out with maintenance or issues etc.
