Terrible service from RedHub Cycles

Hi hubbers

I am not normally one to complain but I really think that this needs to be brought to public attention. After the Sabie Xperience last year I sent my bike to Brandon at RedHub cycles for some much needed TLC. I have a Momsen Vipa 2014, which I have sent to Brandon many times before and I have had no complaints up until now.

When I got my bike back from him on 18 Dec, the cranks, top spacers and top cap, and the chain stay were all 'bleached'. Brandon first tried to blame the problem on Shimano saying that they had a problem with their 'iodising process' (yet I have had the bike since Sept and the damage only happened now??? and not just on the Shimano parts, but on the frame as well) he later admitted that the damaged caused by their cleaning process and he would have it sorted for me. He took my bike back to the shop and when he returned it he said that the cranks had been ordered and he had replaced my original Momsen spacers and top cap with Trigon scraps from around the shop, you can imagine my shock, but i kept calm as he assured me that the problem would be sorted in January once the reps were all back at work. Needless to say I refused to pay for the 'service' that was done until my cranks were replaced.

January 2015, I tried to phone Willie from RedHub after getting nowhere with Brandon. Willie refused to speak to me on the phone and then eventually on 19 Jan I got an email from Willie saying that he would prefer to discuss the issue in writing. I told him the story and his response was that barring any private conversation between Brandon and myself (I have saved all the Whatsapp conversations where Brandon admits everything) he denies that the damage to my cranks was caused by RedHub, but in order to uphold the 'reputation' of the shop, he would replace the cranks at their expense, on condition that I pay my outstanding account prior to them ordering the cranks (Brandon told me that they were already ordered in Dec and he was waiting for the shipment to be cleared at P.E harbour), Shimano are based in Johannesburg so heaven knows what was being 'shipped in', I told Willie that they could drop the cranks off at my office and I would give them the cash in exchange, I would not trust these guys enough to EFT the amount and then hope that the cranks get delivered.

I have heard NOTHING more from Willie regarding my cranks, after he promised to keep in touch as it is an 'ongoing process'. They are extremely unprofessional and I don't think he realises how small the cycling community is and word of mouth and either make or break you.

I have attached a few pics of the damages to my bike.

What cleaner does that to a bike? Paint stripper?

My thoughts exactly...

Now I have stripped cranks exactly like those to polished and let me tell you, even with removeall it took two coats and alot of patience to get it like that.

Nevermind the chainstay....

OP your top cap spacers / cap and cranks are the least of your worries....that chainstay...

yoh yoh yoh

Can't think what they used to do that to the bike, describing the chainstay as 'bleached' looks about right but the crank looks like a different one altogether or as Rouxtjie pointed out, polished.

does anyone know said bike shop?????, lets get them here before this escalates the same as the last few bike shops getting slated and maybe for once we can have a "happy ending" without the threats of law suites and lawyers

Blaming Shimano; then taking responsibility. Not cool!

Going to need to start doing what one does when taking a car in for a service, well what should be done anyway - take pictures (or better yet a video clip) of the whole vehicle and get the person you're handing the said item to into the picture/film as well.

Nee wat jong.

I do most work on my cars myself - purely because i got badly pomped by a car service shop in my area.

Bought a whole array of tools as well as bike stand in December, and the bicycles are being done in the garage as well.

Agree with Dips - Get the bikeshop on this thread before the speculation, eventual namecalling and locking of the thread happens.

Goeie bliksem!!! Ek sal mos aaapK@k mal gaan as iemand dit aan my fiets doen!!!

Just make sure that what ever took the paint off like that have not attacked the resin in the carbon's as well... You will end up with issues down the line it that is the case.
