CL for me. Hope I can do a 3.15 from there

I did a 3.17 from EL last year. Just keep in the front or top 10 position and help the guys pull. The rest is up to the conditions.

Hoping to break that sub 3 this weekend.

I tried that at the 947 last year and before I knew it I was at the back, again, and again. It's hard work staying in the front third.

Does anybody have an idea how big the groups are?

Normally very big. And they get bigger as your bunch swallows up groups in front of you.

Then there is the merge with the shorter distances in the last part of the race which makes it very dangerous indeed. Now you have to stay in the top 5 positions which will keep you relative safe.

This was one of the first races I ever did.  The group riding over the first 60km convinced me to licence and ride vets.  Much safer.  I did drop to AL a few years ago to ride with my son and broke 3hr for the first (and last?) time.  For some reason they started the tandems and AL together which made for a very quick first 40km!

Sorry for the hijack, but are there any good cycling shops in that area. I know cajees is there, but like is said good, and I was not very impressed by le tour de frans shop either.

When you say area, How big an area you talking? There is Finish Line Cycles in kempton park that's not too far from there, especially if you coming from pta. But otherwise im not clued up on the boksburg shops, I'm not from that far east.

See you there , lets hope we do not see any crashes, but think I will get my license to go back to VB for the next race. So Will do my best to stick with top 15 guys and if we actually do some circle pacing we can get a good time or reduse the size of the bunch.

Judging by the number collections, this is going to be a big race.

Pre Argus "how is my training coming along" race.

Should be a crash or two with guys trying to ride in big bunches without skill.

Going to be hard race.

Enjoyed the race, Johnny Koen, orgs, marshaling etc all excellent. Only negative was the road condition on the Alrode section but orgs cant be blamed for that. No crashes or other incidents that i saw.

Agreed organisation in my view was excellent. Bit dissapointed with my result as got dropped out of va in a cross wind at 60km and missed sub3, but guess thats how you learn. Overall well done to organisers

I got stuck behind a crash in AL right at the start of the climb out of Heidelberg. It becomes very real when you are trying to close gaps on the uphill. Just more respect to the Pro's that do that all the time! 2min slower than last year. Much better marshalling than before. I felt much safer.
