It was just announced on RSG. The route will change.

Seems a given at this point.

Only question is what will the change entail.?

What are the logistics for alternative road closures and to what extent can the route be detoured at such short notice.?

Was driving behind someone this morning thinking that the Cape is ablaze and you'll probably still toss that ciggy out your window.! :cursing:

Our routes changed so I didn't see the outcome ...

my stab would be to answer the question: which possible alternate route can use as much of the current arrangements as possible. that makes over OKW from noordhoek and then back to town via blueroute the most likely.

however, the fire is not under control in the hotzone, then it might be wise to not have so many additional ppl in the area for the emergency controllers to plan around. Moving the event away from the area then makes the most sense.

so they are going to access the Chappies option first. Kind of makes sense because any other route requires closure of too many main thoroughfares for emergency services

Before Chappies was closed yesterday, Chappies was still a possibility! I very much doubt that anyone would be prepared to take the risk of sending 35000 people along that road now :whistling:

I know that a meeting is taking place this morning between the stakeholders and I think its safe to accept that we are not going over Chappies  Would be interesting to see what other alternatives were thought of besides OKW ;)

Any news on the overhanging safety nets on Chappies. Wonder how the fire damaged the cables holding the nets.

if its the same fire resistant steel used in the world trade center towers, then they should be melted by now. For all other types of steel they most likely still quite intact, but would require an engineering assessment of the material condition.

There's a hotline to report people

Stompie-Line

(021) 424 7715

They'll want the car's details, time, road, direction, who it was (passenger, driver, etc) who tossed their stompie and your details.
