Guys, I reckon we need to prepare ourselves for Ou Kaapse Weg and the M3 back.

They might throw in Boyes Drive as well!

As I am typing the engineers are out there assessing whether Chappies is rideable or not! The call will be made today still, but from what I heard it will be Ou Kaapseweg...sorry

In the past when they had the "Detour", what was the route from Sun Valley? Up Ou Kaapse Weg, down onto the M3 and follow that the whole way into town? Where was the finish? Western Boulevard?

From what is shown on TV news, it looks like the fire/burn threat to cyclists is less and less of an issue as time lapses. There are 3 more days to alleviate the situation and a final call maybe made on Friday. My gut feel says the organizers will have an open mind to accommodate the best possible experience for all. Not forgetting the marketing and exposure opportunity at hand. (looking at the length of time entries were available for Internationals). Let's be positive. There are are some brilliant people behind the scenes. For all we know the South-Easter will abide and the rain will assist before the weekend. We might just be split for spoils on Sunday, fast up Chappies and even faster up Suikerbossie. What a prognosis?

They should take the race over constania nek after that and then back over suikerbosie. The race should turn at red hill and not Smits winkel.

That route would mean game over for a lot of the field.

Route could be. Start in town, up hospital bend, up Eddingbrough drive, down the cost to red hill, up red hill, ocean view, ou Kaapseweg, Constania Nek, Suikerbosie and then finish in town again.

That would be awesome!

Although the descent into hout bay will be scary for those who only do the CTCT and not much other riding

The fire should be out soon (well, lets hope so), so the safety issue isn't about the fire itself, but about what damage has been done to the road and surrounds. Rock and land slides along Chappies are a real risk, even without rain.
