Best Before dates on gels

So last year I bought a box of PVM Octane GU. Ive got about half the box left and I now see that its expired the 19th of April 2015.

 

Ive got about 15 of these left and I only use gels during a race. How long"should" they still last? :ph34r:

Well its probably ok for a few days after but I wouldn't risk an emergency *** in the bos

they last long time... Think expiry date just covers their butts

They will still be fine for a year or so, we used to by all the expired one's from the reps at a reduced price.

Sorri I know you asked about gels....but imho the expiry date is like the Max Heart Rate calculation....just a scientific guess required by food controls...

 

I'm still chomping 32Gi chews (tablets) that expired sometime in 2014, and they don't even produce a fart.

 

I have a few exp 2014 tubs of the drink mix (endure and accelerate) which I'm considering using, will examine them closely and if I don't see anything growing or moving I will try them

I used a gu 3 years after it expired. I only saw it after I swallowed. No problem. It was stored in the fridge though.

Only time I would start to worry is if the sachet starts to swell up. I bought some pvm once(few years back) and not long afterwards they started to get seriously bloated. I phoned them and queried it and they said they did indeed have a problem with a batch/s. A few days later they delivered a whole new box to me even though I only had a few that where swelling.

I have used expired Gu, it was around 4 months after the date. Got sick, pretty bad, and I generally have a high tolerance for stomach ailments. I will never make that mistake again, for the sake of a few bob, its not worth messing up a race.

The packets are pretty air tight and a nice shiny silver... eat it !!  whats the worst that can happen ?

you might just grow a third leg, maybe not such a bad thing.
