Correct. According to the rules because there is prize money any rider with a racing licence can't ride open /seeded. Unless he was dropped he shouldn't have been there.

I obviously don't know what happened and where the VA rider started or what his situation was but if he was a licensed VA starting or entering with open he should get DQ'd. But ja.........

Edit spelling

You are allowed to drop back.  Just not jump forward.

Very glad I did not do this race.

Elite/VA/VB/VC guys are all about racing.  Gutter, attacks, counter, spitting, biting, anything goes.

If the race organisers /commissars can't recognise that then there is no hope for racing.  Then we are better off doing our Stravas alone in the dark.

Within the lead car and the 5 following cars together with the 3 motorbikes hovering around, there is normally this "rolling road closure" culture in the bunch.  Always have been and always will be.  The past 15 years of racing, 20 times a year, showed me that it is a rather successful system and opens up the group for a bit of fun and tactics.

And then you get one power trip hungry organiser/commissar that feels the need to "apply the rules" and DQ everyone.

Short sighted in my opinion.

Then again.......we are Vets and not Pros so sticking to the rules should be quite an obvious choice.

What a bunch of whiny, moaning, hard done by children many of you are!!!

Is it OK for you to jump the robot because the taxi does it? Is it OK to steal from your employer because JZ does it? Is it OK to beat up you wife because your neighbour does it?

Let's be clear. I'm no racing snake - never have been, never will be. I also have no association with the organisers or CSA. I rode R4V on Sunday from BL and had a fantastic ride. At no stage was I prepared to put myself or someone else's life in danger because I wanted to wheel-suck in the wind. Granted, I'm never going to win a race, but I would rather be alive than fast. I'd rather let another rider into a gap than risk him having an accident.

Have some respect for the rules. You're not children that have to be warned. The rules are clear. Cross the white line and you will be DQ'ed. What else do you want from the organisers? Should they hold your hand and beg you to behave?

Grow up and understand that life has consequences.

Two guys in our batch started hitting each other, apparently the one guy kept cutting the other one off..

This was very interesting..

Cycling, the new contact sport... bunch of frigging thugs hey.

Should of reported them and have them banned for life...

Um, as I recall AL lead bunch (20 or so riders), there was the odd guy overtaking across the white line, but very little echelon riding and no guttering all the way across to the right of the road. Mostly single file right on the white line. The on-coming trucks were quite intimidating. The Bike Marshal was present and seemed to do a great job, shepparding cars etc past the group and keeping things in check.

What was funny was when we caught the racing ladies, the pace dropped off completely, seemed the guys in front were keen to chat...

We actually caught the elite ladies that got dropped and managed to catch the two leaders with 2km to go

So you are not qualified to comment on racing conditions and how it has been conducted by the CSA over the past 30 odd years.

Absolutely not qualified to comment on racing  - past or present.

Absolutely qualified to expect people in all walks of life to obey the rules. Imagine if your wife or kid was driving a car and suddenly confronted by a group of "qualified" racing snakes on the wrong side of the road. Imagine if someone was killed. I suppose it would be CSA's fault because previously the didn't prevent "qualified" racing snakes from breaking the rules.

There is this pervasive culture of not accepting responsibility that is present in every facet of South African life. It sickens me.

You knew the rule. You broke the rule. You got punished. Get over yourself. Be glad that you weren't killed or injured by some law-abiding motorist. Boy, would all the "qualified" racers having lots to say then.

This would NOT have happened as the front car would have pulled them off the road for 5 seconds.  That together with the bike marshals getting the cars out of the way.

Also known as rolling road closure.

Ta da!!!!!!

Read my first reply to this thread again.  Bit winey for your taste but there are some info for you to become more knowledgeable in the sport of cycling and not just participate.

You can either learn on how racing bunches are normally managed by CSA coms' or you can choose not to.  Up to you.

My point remains that the CSA race commissaires have changes the way they let us race and we should adapt to that.  DQing the boys were maybe a bit PPA ish.......

Dude.

hahahahha.

I did not compete.

I don't give a craps ass about you or myself!

Hahahhahaha

Besides.

I am way to fat to get over myself.  You'll need a 29er with serious suspension.

Does anyone know if D2D is a seeding event for 94.7?

It is not. The 94.7 seeding is already done. You can submit your D2D in a reseeding request, but it won't happen automatically.

The piece you leave out in your argument is that that even those that did not break the rule were DQ'd simply because they were in the same bunch.

Second, i agree with your points, about not complaining if you broke the rule. However the issue seems more to be about consistent application of the rule. The general (not everbody) consensus in the thread seems to be that if there was consistent application, the rule would probably generally be adhered to and people would be ok with it being enforced generally.

It does not make it acceptable to break a rule because others are doing it, but i do believe it is reasonable to feel aggrieved if you are the only person/group singled out. Worse is that it is totally unacceptable to punish people because others around them broke a rule, when they did not.
