Not to hijack the topic but from what I read the 2nd gen has resolved the sagging issue then?

I have a 1st gen but it suffers a bit from a 3-8mm sag when the post is fully extended, oddly it is rock solid when dropped just a bit and lower .  I combat this by having the seat post out about 5mm extra for when it sags but it is inconsistent so would like to invest in a proper dropper post now.  Bought this one for next to nothing to see if a dropper post is for me or not, needless to say I don't know why I haven't gotten myself one way sooner besides the price...

When mine has played up, I just unscrew the cartridge, spray some Q20 into the actuator button at the top of the cartridge and press it in and out a couple time. Water and dirt  tend to accumulate in the actuator as the seat clamp area is not sealed. This has worked every time, even with up - down play at the top. No new parts needed.

I've also replaced a cable and outer once or twice.

But these Giant posts can't be beat for the price.

GT saddle of a Giant seatpost on a Spez, gather you don't have a brand affinity.............

Some say he barely rides so no-one will ever really see his multi brand whoredness.

but this is just rumour based on heresay from another forum

I emailed several retailers on Giant's website and Raymond from City Cyles was the only one to respond.  They have them for R2800 in the 375 and 400mm lengths. Apparently the shorter one is suitable for S & M frames and the longer is better for L and XL frames.

I can go there tomorrow during lunch and get them to reply.

They have just had a key staff member leave to join a distributor, so I think that they are under a little pressure ATM

If you like, please drop me a PM with your contact details and info required and I will call you from the store.

Bought one recently from my LBS for R1995.00 in CT.

Been 100% happy with it, easy to fit and set up. All I have done is to form a cable tie loop through a modified / cut cable housing stop to guide the cable on the around the seat clamp area and allow me to control the direction of the cable loop when in the saddle is in the dropped position.....kind of a knock off on the guide the Reverb droppers use.

Hairy, who's your LBS? Action Cycling?

Also have the seat clamp issue. The sound is unbearable when it happens!

Picked up the Contact SL dropper cheap cheap at the Giant Concept Store in London this past week.

Literally just took me less than 30min to fit to my Trance, and I didn't even remove the cranks.  Not ridden it yet, but am quite happy.  :)

Some handy info if you are considering buying the 2016 model:

Only diameter it comes in it 30.9mm

It comes in three lengths/drops.. 350mm/100mm drop, 395mm/125mm drop, 440mm/150mm drop..

The 150mm drop that I have has a minimum inserted height (bottom of dust collar to seat rail clamp) of 200mm.

It can accommodate 7mm alloy and 9mm composite seat rails.

If you have a 2015 model, the cable/lever is identical, so no need to route the new cable, just swop the posts out.

And the most important point for tall bastards like me... no setback  :(  .

I ended up buying a 2015 one as a result.

Got one from Cajees in the end.  Not 100% sure of the price as my missus got is as a present for me but I think it was around R2k.

Fitted it with internal routing (also without having to remove cranks etc - just fed the outer casing through and opened the plug near the bottom bracket to help it go up the seattube.

Works like a bomb - no hassles so far.

Rode Berg and Bush Descent with it and enjoyed being able to drop my saddle at will.  Helped to get me nice and low on the long downhills and gave my neck and butt a break from the "normal" posture.  All good!
