MTN has saved R100m(?) a year and lost the R10k they made from you - how will they sleep tonight... It's just business - you probably didn't join them because they sponsored a cycling team so why leave them because they stopped? You pay them for a cellphone (or 3G or whatever else) - that's all you should ever expect them to deliver.

Cowardly?...

Sponsors move on for various reasons. Most people who have cared to look into the actual situation at hand can understand MTNs reasoning.

See it as a chance for further growth for the team. Imagine them partnering with a truly global sponsor?...

MTN have contributed a tremendous amount to cycling in SA & Africa. Canceling contracts would only further detriment this, don't you think?

Imagine the sale on all those Cervelo Team bikes that just landed in SA

They can keep those pretty Bordelo's. I want those ENVE wiele...

Most likely candidate as the replacement sponsor is "Dimension Data" (as the team are currently also being sponsored by them & with DD wants a bigger slice of the cycling exposure, that seems logical)

Time will tell the next title sponsor of the team, but they'll be in good hands that's for certain

dimenstion data qhubeka...

doesnt flow off the tongue the same as mtn-qhubeka

It's better when you remove the "t" from "dimenstion" :-)

A spokesman for ESKOM said the company would be keen to sponsor the team but the riders would have to stop riding on a rotational basis for four hours each day because "there isn't enough energy drink to supply everyone all the time".

They also warned that riders would have to get used to things like riding with flat tyres, brakes rubbing, chains slipping etc, because "maintenance isn't our strong point".

Apparently the team used to employ first class bike mechanics who did a good job for a reasonable wage and kept the team going under pretty much all circumstances. However, under the terms of the new contract the criteria for employment of bike mechanics has changed somewhat. "There is a list of requirements that candidates must meet" said a spokesperson for the team. "cultural and ethnic requirements are top of the list, then comes "having friends in the right places" and finally, at the bottom of the list, comes the ability to actually fix a bike". . . . .
