It's not just mountain biking. MTN for road, and then if you look at rugby, all the big sponsors Absa, and Vodacom are pulling out or reducing their sponsorship money. I am sure other sports are just as effected. This is usually the first sings of economies going into the red. Not good.

Kinda scary... Was just saying the other day that Berg & Bush is also still without a title sponsor. MTN, RECM, ABSA dropping the Cape Epic and Currie Cup after 2016, etc.

However, this could probably just be an "internal" decision by Nedbank. The Exec that was responsible for the Sani sponsorship within Nedbank was a keen cyclist and rode the Race every year. He has now moved into a bigger role within Old Mutual plc. His replacement might not have the same passion for the sport and therefore doesn't see the value. I'm sure Sani2c isn't a cheap sponsorship.

We also need to remeber that brand campaigns have a set goal, budget and life span.

Corporates don't sponsor cycling as part of their CSI drive (well not always) a lot has to do with brand recognition. Once these campaigns and goals have been achieved, they need to move on.

True but!

biking is not cheap ,hence the status drive through upper end brands.

If you can spend 50k on a bike (or 3)-we want you banking with us :)

5 years is not long when looking at other top sponsors in the world of sport.

Doesn't need to now does he...owes you, me and this here forum nada.

I agree. I have it on good authority that there is much more to this story than what appeared in the newspaper. Apparently a book could be written on what went on. Farmer Glen has nothing to gain by giving his view other than starting a who said what battle .

exactly, don't know him personally but based on what he has done for his community, ethic and character there has to be a very good reason to do what he did.

Like they say in the classics, actions speak louder than words.
