Like I said, qualifying events are purely money making rackets, and comrades is also guilty. because a 7 hour marathon at Ironman is apparently good enough when a 20 hour 100Miler isn't... I think a lot of the date comments for comrades are just people battling with change and having to train the whole way through winter other than hibernating the 2nd half of winter. @Jewbacca we know you would only go to UTMB for the PTL event anyway I was actually down for PTL 2020 but COVID... Fisan Posted August 25, 2022 Share 2 hours ago, Lexx said: I was thinking the same thing, we got plenty races to qualify and get stones to enter the lottery. But UTCT emailed me this when I asked about it? "UTCT doesn’t award stones for UTMB as we are an independent race. Stones are only awarded to raced owned by UTMB" So now it got me confused about their qualifying criteria? Seems a bit weird to me. Our local races only adds to your Race Index or something, but the qualifier stones can only be achieved by participating in an official UTMB event - which we don't have in ZA. Most of our training will be in the cold and very dark. Other than this, it means you write off any Autumn marathons in the NH and it competes with UTMB etc for top intl athletes (which would grow the profile of the event) The potential for really bad weather is also increased, I have yet to see one credible reason for an August date. The whole road calendar has been structured around TOM on easter and comrades in June for a very long time. Those habits are hard to break, I agreed with you, for a lot of runners i think it set up there year and what they were going to run. It is also a good way to kickstart your year. Come January you know you need to put the skoens on and strt training for C. August throws that all out. TheoG, Andrew Steer and Lexx

Come January you know you need to put the skoens on and strt training for C. August throws that all out. I was following a friend's training program for Comrades. The program had a mix of regular short runs, a good couple longer runs, and then 2 or 3 very long runs. By shear dumb luck the very long rruns co-incided with the few decent weather weekends we had off late .... an autumn training program would probably have had less rain. Also keeping up a day job with the short days, and putting in regular runs is tricky ,,,, This will be her first Comrades. Really hope she has a good Comrades. Luckily family members on the side of the road kept sending video updates. The gene pool definitely decided to skip me. Anyway, Well done to all the ran and all the seconders on the side of the road. Jip, besides dot watching it was only the videos from the supporter that kept us in the know. The SS broadcast often was just ahead or just behind our friend. Even at the end point the broadcast jumped between the stadium entry, the finish line and adds to just miss our friend .... Sure, it was a nice broadcast ! Nice info bits for a newbie like me.
