must say - If i ever stop running I am going to balloon...because my diet is not that great! I dont drink a lot of beer or wine...but my daily intake is:

Youghurt and Muesli in the morning

Crackerbread and salticrax Tea time snack

2 x toasted sandwiches at lunch (sometimes with a sneaky coke and chocolate)

Lunch is occasionally a veg currie or standard Pie

standard family Supper

bit of choccie or chips later in the eve

I have a 25yr class reunion coming up on the 14th....I need to be quite disciplined for that and not have tooo many beers!

Where are you guys staying Hacc?

We stay in Amanzimtoti, we usually book out Stella Maris for the club.

WRT your diet question, how is your alcohol usage the rest of the time, is this not the problem?

I also don't see a problem with the late meal if it is the right portion and clean.   You have to eat after your main run anyways.

With the whole nausea problem, I stopped drinking alcohol completely from January up to end of Feb when I sorted out the problem. I now drink maybe two Savannah Lights a week... I am not drinking fit at all

I have tried and tried to get into the habit of having a glass of red every night with dinner but fail miserably..... after a few days I revert back to drinking cold drink the syrup kind u mix with water....

When I do have a glass of wine I find it helps me sleep

I hardly drink any alcohol maybe that's why my weight stays constant since I left the army in 83....army cured me of most types of alcohol

I saw on fb people are toy toying between Pinetown and Durbs. I hope they will not be a nuisance come Comrades day.

Wish this was live on tv, would like to watch it.

TBH tho I'm kind of hoping they don't succeed and don't break the current WR either.

Pacers, shoe tech, slightly artificial environment and constant nutritional support (marathon water points normally only allowed every 5 or so km's) are my main opposition points

I am going to miss it - running Jackie Mekler tomorrow morning.

I agree it is just way too scientific and feels like they are cheating.

Sounds like a great opportunity for the shoe manufacturers to garner PR. But what about the exercise Prof's approach.....$30M budget!

So with regard to the too- or not scientific enough references, I wonder what's known about the required physiological performance of an athlete to run at sub-2 hr pace? (I know sweet FA about running), but if you look at the capabilities of the predictions for the cycling 1-hr record attempts, the required power, for example, can be closely predicted. That can be inter-related to what a cyclist can do on a watt-bike for instance, and predictions adjusted, or training gaps attacked etc. The same can be done via oxygen demand etc. Is this the case for running, particularly on a semi-controlled course, and ignoring the influence of weather etc??

All the scientific articles I read about this attempt agrees that a 4% improvement is not possible. Unless there were witchcraft involved in the making of the shoes.
