Khronis Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 Hey Khronis, great to meet you on Sunday at CCMC trail run. How was your day out there? Hey Scott , yes , nice meeting you . Had a pretty enjoyable day out , a nice change from the usual road running . Was aiming for a sub 2 but finished with a 02h06 , most probably took the first half a bit to easy. Your water table couldn't have come at a better time , it was a scorcher of a day. Frosty 1
Barry Stuart Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 Very sorry to hear about that, Stretch. I hope you and your family come through okay. Stretch 1
tjommies3 Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 Hi Everyone I'm gonna be offline for a few days and just wanted to wish everyone well for the Kaapsehoop and Soweto Marathons this coming weekend. Enjoy and start getting those Comrades qualifiers done and dusted.

ycowley Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 IMG-20181102-WA0010.jpgNo pace setters for 2h15 or 2h30 for the 21km. Bleak. Have to pace myself. Those that have done Soweto before, should I hang with the 2h45 bus rather or is a 2h30 doable if I run a 1hour 10km (10km per hour)?

(I see you are in Centurion, if you want we can plan to do a 'paced' 21 at a stage?) Edited November 2, 2018 by Pieter-za
Andrew Steer Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Well done of the runs this weekend... nice to see people hitting their goals and some Iron, Mats and shaper 3

shaper Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 (edited) Weather looking good for Kaapsehoop, mild with light winds https://www.yr.no/place/South_Africa/Mpumalanga/Mbombela/long.html Looking forward to it and as I have a decent enough qualifying time from CT marathon already, just going to enjoy myself and see how quickly the legs can go.... until they go boom !!Executed my race plan perfectly!! .... got stuck with the masses at the start so the first 8kms was slower than I wanted. Saw the 3:30 bus about 2kms in front of me on the turn-around loop through the forest section..... once out of the forest and back on to the main road, opened the taps and finally caught up to the bus around the 15km mark (probably not the wisest of ideas to go hard so early on and paid for it later). Dropped off the bus around 35kms and was still on for a sub 3:30 at that point as average pace was 4:52min/km..... then the legs went boom at the 39km on the short and sting in the tail hills back to the Mbombela stadium... was a shuffle/ walk until the final downhill to the line.... limped in with a 3:34hr... missed the 3:30 partly because the legs (quads) were shot from the downhill run and probably from going too hard early to catch up the bus!! Still managed a PB and to knock 4mins off my CTM time... so fairly please even though missed a sub 3:30. Edited November 5, 2018 by shaper Hacc, Odinson, ScottCM and 5 others 8
Mats Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 @Carpet, how did your first marathon go? Was my second marathon.I had the run of my life. The first 9 km was extremely congested and no where to go.When we got back onto the main Kaapsehoop road going back to Nelspruit I thought to myself that I can forget about doing a good time as I was sitting with a 6:55 min/km avg.But as soon as the road opened up I settled down and got into my own rhythm. I kept looking at my watch to see what I HR was doing as I wanted to keep it low but with that monster of a downhill I also wanted to make the most of it without braking to much.I went through halfway at about 2:07 something.I knew I will be fine up until 24 km, from there I was just trying to not waste time at the water points.I'm also not a water point potato eating person due to hygiene but Saturday I had to put it aside and I can report that I am still alive after having 3 potato pieces. At 28 km I had a gel and was digging deep 28-30km.At 35 I caught up with a fellow club runner and handed him my last gel as I was feeling OKish. However that last bloody 4 km was long. Crossing the finish line I busted into tears of joy.My official time 4:27:38 I improved my previous marathon time by about 1 hour 10 minutes. SeaBee, Andrew Steer, tjommies3 and 15 others 18
