Fruity Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Me, I run in Mizuno. Moved from Asics Nimbus to Brooks Ghost and now Mizuno Wave Rider. Out of the 3, best shoe for me. Want to find a trail pair, currently using Hoka Speed goat on the trails but not that happy with them.I suppose it depends from person to person. I had a pair of Asics Gel Cumulus 19 in January last year. They were comfortable, although I picked up knee pain in my right knee. Went to the Chiropractor and he told me to stop running, just when I had started to get into running, and I sold the Asics. I could possibly have been pushing myself too hard in the beginning with those shoes. Fast forward to the beginning of this year, and I've had no issues since running on the road with the Nike Pegasus 35. I've had a look at the Brooks Ghost 11 online - they got one point more than the Pegasus on runrepeat, and I've had the idea of going for a pair of Brooks once it's time to retire the Nike's, but the Pegasus are working for me at the moment, so I may just purchase another pair of Pegasus when the time comes. As for trail shoes. The Adidas Terrex I have are okay, not that we have too many opportunities to run trails, although I'm not too sure how they would handle in the wet. Those New Balance Hierro v4's look tempting, although at the rate we're running off road, the Hierro v6 will probably be available when the time comes for me to upgrade my trail shoes.

Ronniek Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Did a nice celebrity run this morning with a legend Joh I’m jealous. At every Comrades I’ve done I’ve kept my eyes peeled wide open trying to spot him. Would love to meet him.
Jackes Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Tailwind has a few on special, like the Lemon 30 servings. Have you guys used the lemon? Or is the naked flavor the best?
Wayne Potgieter Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 (edited) On the subject of running shoes... I have been struggling. I used to run in the Asics Dynaflyte a few years ago and really enjoyed them. After I ran them broken, I replaced them with the Kayano 25s' They sucked. The heel foam around the achilles collapsed a week into owning them. Asics replaced them and the same thing happened to the second pair so they became gardening shoes. I then decided to switch to NB. I bought the Fresh Foam Zante's and fell on wet surfaces twice. The sole has ZERO grip in the wet. I wrote a review on New Balances website (I use reviews a lot when purchasing) however NB kept removing the review. So I complained and they refunded me for the shoes. I then went back to the Asics Dynaflyte's (however the current version) but they have changed the sole and its really hard. I have done over 100km in them but still cant get used to them. So they are also gardening shoes (I have a really nice gardening shoe collection) In desperation, I did something really weird. I bought the Nike Vaporfly 4% shoes. Yes the fancy expensive ones. These are special order from Nike head office. The first shipment got lost in the courier network and eventually returned to NIKE but they sent me a new pair. THEY ARE AMAZING. I hate to admit it but they are worth every penny. So much so, that after my Strava times started dropping like mad, my wife ran in my shoes and bought a pair the same day. She does not buy shoes often and is super critical and resistent to change so this is quite something. They are really that good. I have one criticism and that is that the sole is pretty soft and I dont think it will last as long as a normal pair of shoes, but I see now that the regular Vaporfly has the same carbon fibre plate in them as the 4% but a harder wearing foam sole. I might get those for training runs and then use the 4% for special occasions like weddings and races. The shoe forces you on to the front foot and it gives you a weird springing forward like feel. Its hard to explain, but it feels like its pushing you forward. My butt muscles hurt a little after the first few runs as I was using a different set of muscles, but man the runs felt so good. Smooth and quick. I just wish they werent so expensive. Edited February 18, 2019 by Wayne Potgieter Chris_, Dirkitech, Captain Fastbastard Mayhem and 1 other 4
scuzzy Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 A question about strength training I know it is important, I want to do this at home, with multiple workouts available online. My question is, what's your opinion on splitting one workout into daily workouts. I truffle with the kids to get 45min "standing around" at home doing this. I'm thinking if I try and do 1 muscle group a day, I'll at lest get something done on the strength side. What's your opinion?

SeaBee Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 Tailwind has a few on special, like the Lemon 30 servings. Have you guys used the lemon? Or is the naked flavor the best? Will check it out, thanks. I always like anything in a lemon flavor - so I assume it depends on taste. But if you do like a natural flavor, they nailed it! I had one and was reluctant to use it and tried it a couple of weeks ago. Where other natural/naked/unflavoured drinks have a distinct trying-not-to-taste-like-anything bland taste, this one gave the water a sliiight taste, almost salty(?) and I surprised myself and actually liked it.

All I do is single leg bridges for the hips/glutes and hamstrings, and some 1 min plank sets. Most of my injuries and niggles disappeared since doing this. I also finish my runs with some walking lunges. Its great for stretching out the legs, with the strength benefit as well. Dirkitech, scuzzy and Chris_ 3

Edgar Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 Try the Zoom Fly, cheaper than the Vaporfly. It is really the best shoe I have ever used, its just impossible to explain how comfortable and fast these shoes feel. Make sure they are the Fly Knit version though. Keep the VF's for your race days, the Zoom Fly's are almost as good and half the price and will last a little longer. The VF's are made to last 800k, they are performance shoes and certainly the best shoe in that category. You will probably get around 500k in them. Welcome the Nike Fan Club, its similar to the Spaz fan club. You are either in it or your ain't. Lexx 1

It felt a little tighter and more secure. Any reason you prefer the FK?
Edgar Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 I tried the FK and the normal upper. I really preferred the normal one much more. It felt a little tighter and more secure. Any reason you prefer the FK? I find the FK supportive enough for me and like the way it molds around my foot shape. Reducing risks of blisters, evidenced by no blisters at Comrades in the Epic React. It is also lighter and cooler. Also, if he is using and enjoying the VF's the FK version will be the closest feel.
HDW Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 (edited) I need some advice from those who have recovered from an injury and started running afterwards again: I had an arthroscopy, some kneecap work done and some work to a strange ligament which apparently few people have (it was just cut through). Now this plagued me for almost 6 months before going for the op, so I haven't been running at all during this time. Before that I was doing 60 - 70km a week, so I'm not a complete novice. This is however my first ever big comeback from an injury like this, so my question is when I get the go ahead from the Doc, how should I best approach this? Start walking for a while, then run/walk for a while, etc? Edited February 18, 2019 by HDW

Make one of the runs on grass too to make it easier on your knee

Just start very slowly with a run walk combination and increase pace and distance as you feel comfortable. But never run trough pain. Dirkitech and Frosty 2
