Stretch Posted November 11, 2019 Posted November 11, 2019 I did and I think it's high time races banned headwinds. I did the inverse to you and had a rare positive split race. I think I underestimated how taxing the first 10km was and didn't manage my effort properly. The final 11km sucked pretty bad. It was a brilliant course, though. Well done on your PB.Ran a 4 mile race last year that was 2 miles into a gale...took about 30sec per mile off the first 2 .. And the then 2 miles with the wind behind you. You were so knackered from the first 2 that the last mile was pure torture Barry Stuart 1

Barry Stuart Posted November 11, 2019 Posted November 11, 2019 That headwind when turning left after WP1 (along the spruit) was brutal, as was running on the rugby field at the end. On another topic, with so many boxes provided for rubbish, it was amazing how many people will still drop their sachets on the route. At least the organizers cleaned up the route - especially outside my place which was a few hundred strides after the last water point.Especially when, to their credit, the organisers put additional disposal boxes a good distance after the water point where you really need them (which most races don’t seem to have figured out). Yeah, wherever you hit an open patch of field you were buffeted heavily. I could feel I was leaning hard left on the one straight. But still, a very well organised race and good fun. Frosty 1

I was desperately searching for big units to tuck in behind but I was surrounded by midgets. On the one hill that climbed straight into the wind I glanced at my watch and saw I was 40 seconds per km off pace. I’m still amazed at how Ferret managed to run his pace at Cape Town straight into a headwind in the last 10km. Edited November 11, 2019 by Barry Stuart Stretch 1

It says "Ballot applications/applications" Referring to SA entries for the HM/Ultra respectfully. Well At least that's what I'm hoping seen as my plane tickets are already paid for. Jewbacca Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 That's lame I'm quickly losing interest in the event. Call me a moaning codger, but they ran out of water last year with only 3000 people through some places. Coupled with a lottery my 2 road runs a year might just go back to 0. Which would suck, but meh.... This leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
dave303e Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 there is a 13 peaks route which you can probably start from your own door step, sounds like a far better alternative to me... Jewbacca 1
SeaBee Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 At least I will know well in advanced whether I need to renew my ASA license, since this is all I need it for... But fortunately I don't have up-country logistics and all to sort out. And I've done it a couple of times, so... if not drawn, I have a relaxed Easter, running and riding in the mountains.
ScottCM Posted November 12, 2019 Author Posted November 12, 2019 As someone that has already paid for two return plane tickets, car rental and accomodation , I'm EXTREMELY P!$$ED off by this. If they gave advanced warning of their intentions i wouldn't have booked or paid for anything till entry was confirmed.
Stretch Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Running had been growing year on year and is peaking. Event organisers are now trying to make a quick back on the back of the demand. €15 non refundable lottery fee. Comrades with their new admin fee and R200 substitution admin fee over and above the entry fee. Events with no substitutions...... People will start looking for alternative options Lexx 1

I was just going for a consecutive 10, which I may just flag. CTCT tried this and it didn't work and is now back to a regular entry process. Don't they learn from each other?
