Jewbacca Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 Fear not, we've been graciously allowed to book an expo stand... all it took was several phone calls and emails, some of which even eventually got a response. I do hope this is all just a temporary malaise as the event transitions... it's a brilliant iconic event and it would be tragic for it to fall away...I was having the same conversation earlier. I hope this really is just a teething issue and a case of the new board being under the pump after receiving a shambles from the previous regime. If it does go down the tubes, my road shoes will go into permanent retirement. Oceans and a qualifier are quite literally the only reason I am registered with CSA and own road shoes SeaBee and Andrew Steer 2
Ferret69 Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 58km, is it because Gerda would've broken the record this year and they don't have the cash? This... they have the R1bar Record Incentive on their website but wont commit to it happening when they have been asked.. Andrew Steer 1
Andrew Steer Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 This... they have the R1bar Record Incentive on their website but wont commit to it happening when they have been asked..In their defense, everyone knows they do not currently have the funds for such a carrot... so no need to rub salt in their wounds. But in the same breath... not all that hard for them to just remove it from the website and clear up any confusion... All very strange
Andrew Steer Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 The way Gerda is running, I would have taken it off the website the moment it was clear the incentive was not feasible Ferret69 1
Andrew Steer Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 If anyone is looking for a Two Oceans Ultra entry, let me know... sadly have to face reality that it's not viable this year. Still not allowed to run and I'm not throwing myself at a qualifier with zero miles in the bank again... 1 x OMTOM, Ultra entry, 1 careful injury plagued lady owner... and I might even throw in a couple extra free km's Ferret69 1

Mats Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 My training is not going anywhere at the moment.I have done absolutely nothing in the last month, since Johnson crane. My back injury from a couple of years is back in full force.Seeing the doc on Monday.
SeaBee Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 Ag nee, Mats... All the best for Monday. In a similar position. Have a calf muscle and knee issue that is aggravated every time I try to run. Have only run once in the last couple of weeks, but can at least ride light gears. That said, I do the MTB bit of a tri tomorrow and hope to start some light trodding around the block again next week. Seriously doubted my Oceans participation, but then got a healthy earful from a friend.
ScottCM Posted February 21, 2020 Author Posted February 21, 2020 Seems there is quite a few of us plagued by injury at the moment. Heal up guys and remember a strong mind isn't only for km 32-41 of a marathon but for time like these. Andrew Steer, Hacc, tjommies3 and 1 other 4

A week of chronic gastritis, semi recovered for a week into a solid 10 days of flu and bronchitis. Peninsula on Sunday after all that and still with a snotty nose and post nasal drip was not as pleasant as it should have been! Heal up and stay strong guys and girls. 2 weeks of solid training and REST and another 10 day block will get you over the line between now and Oceans
Chris_ Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Ran Township Marathon this weekend. I've said it before, and will say it again, its a great run. 2 loops through Eldorado Park, flattish easy route, good water stations, great volunteers, huge community support, a really well put on event. I didn't look at my watch till half way which I did in 1:55, so I latched on to sub 4 idea. Finished in 3:57, only the second time I've gone below 4 (and the other was Kaapsehoop which probably shouldn't count...) I felt really good the whole way, it was really great. Best part of running through Eldos is on the first lap you see everyone standing on the streets in their gowns, coffee in hand, and curlers in their hair, giving you a sleepy cheer. Second lap they're all off strutting down the road, high heels, dressed to the nines, hats, the lot, on their way to church. Its awesome. tjommies3, Jaws677, Jewbacca and 8 others 11
ycowley Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Did the Deloitte Phobean's Pretoria half marathon yesterday. If you want a hill challenge, do this one next year. Those hills will humble you. Better still - do the marathon and see the hills twice.
Lotus Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 More proof (not that you need it) that runners are tough:https://edition.cnn.com/2020/02/23/us/washington-runner-injured-crawled-eight-hours/index.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss%2Fcnn_latest+%28RSS%3A+CNN+-+Most+Recent%29
Christie Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Cango marathon:Great route, scenery and vibe. I suffer from wanderlust, and love races away from big cities. The route has a reputation for being fast, and it could be, but pacing over the first 8km, which is mostly uphill, needs to be right, and heat is an issue too.
