Respect from me too......the only second lap I could do after my first one was a lap dance.......like that was ever going to happen.....come to think of it, a second Argus lap was more likely......but at least I was OK enough to notice the Mavericks aeroplane flying over the finish! :D

Oh, that was Mavericks... Nice little place that.

I'm a family guy so only training I get is my daily commute on the MTB, 12KM on road in the morning and 23KM off and on road after work. Weekends I try to do 55km/4 hours on Bottelary or a funride. So that's an average of 230km and 14 hours a week.

Seems the thieves were in full force....but some good news:

Date:  2016-03-07

SAPS Diepriver  are pleased to inform residents of the good work of constables Yuri Ray and Zak Marais who on Sunday 2016-03-06 morning at04:30 apprehended two suspects with a bicycle in Constantia area .

Later it was discovered that the bicycle valued at R48,000 was at a water point for the Cape Argus cycle tour before the event started. The cyclist was filling his water bottles and when he turned around his bike was gone.

He later came to report it at SAPS Diepriver only to discover that his bike was recovered and that the perpetrators were arrested. Incident was also mentioned on Cape Talk .

Anyone with information on this matter can contact  the station at 0217107388"

Anyone can confirm?....timing seems a bit strange......

First time CTCT with a first time second loop with a Rhino push up Suikerbossie (kudos to those guys)...

First loop done in 02:53, not really racing just wanted my sub 3.

Second loop we took very easy, took every stop, admired the view, spoke *** as one does, took tons of photos, stopped for lunch in Simon's Town and some beers at the bottom of Chappies - I think the place was called Woodcutters? Rolled over the line in 04:48 as LEGENDS!

THAT is the way to do it.  Nice.

8-11 hours a week, around 225km on the road.

well as mentioned above, its about the quality and I guess your training is a lot more structured.

I do on average 8hours / 200km a week but can only dream of doing 2 laps or a DC, especially at the pace you guys ride.

I am lucky if I can get 3 hours training in a week.  This weekend I am in the feed and tech zone for my son doing the XCO at Paarl.  That is 3/4 of the Saturday gone. Sunday is family day.

I usually try and get an afternoon in the week at Helderberg Farm on the red route up and down. And maybe 2 weekends a month on the road to either Stellies or Rooi Els and back.

Oh, and some Wednesday evenings I am at the Wannabees Time Trial at Southeys.

I am so jealous of guys that can get a 100km+ ride in per week.

I only commute , via road or TM , get in 150 -200km a week, no weekend riding, just the odd MTB event. My kids are all small so those weekends are use to spend with them (change nappies etc). The lack of distance riding does hurt me, I'm good for 1h30 and then I struggle. In CTCT my legs were klaar at Kommetjie/Oceanview and had to nurse myself to the finish line. Started in 2C and managed a respectable 3-15, even if I have to say so myself.

What a great day, no wind for a change.

Only gripe was that the collection point for my 10th tour medal was so far from the finish line that I didn't bother to fetch it, was too knackered to walk. I think I must contact the organisers to see if I can still get the medal.

Well done to all, great event, super gees

+1

It is really is a balancing act.

Every moment spent on your bike is a moment away from the fam.

Time to reconsider commuting just to get some TITS.

Had a great day out on the bike. We were a bunch of 12 from work and dropped back to all start together in the charity group 7C at 09.20. We all rode our mountain bikes and although a couple of the guys went for 'time' most of us went to enjoy the day and finish.

I was the designated sweeper and stayed with the last guy. We came home in 05.43 having had a blast. We paced the rhino down the M3 and until Fish Hoek where we stopped to assist someone with a mechanical. Spent about 30min at the side of the road and had a good ride up and over Smits from there (high-5ing the mankini guy was probably a mistake). Had some nice conversations and banter with other riders. Stopped at every water point from there to the finish for some Coke and a cool water 'shower' (was getting quite hot).

One of our guys was suffering a bit with cramp and we dropped the pace down even further. We had a blast, taking photos and soaking up the vibe. It was actually an amazing ride by my colleagues, they only started cycling in September!

Great event and thanks to the organisers and all the volunteers.

Well done to all the Hubbers on achieving their goals and healing vibes to all who suffered an injury or damaged equipment.

A convenient way to get more TITS is to ride your bike to the places your family goes to on holidays or when visiting friends. In December I rode 170km from Stellenbosch to Veldrift where we have a holiday house and I will definitely do it again, not racing or anything, just an nice and long ride with plenty of time on the bike.

This coming weekend my wife wants to visit some friends of ours in Hermanus so I'm planning a 120km ride there via Rooi Els.

It's all about planning your rides around your family.

Damn - I rode my MTB with knobblies and only managed 04:55 - I also want to be fast enough to stop for beer and still break 5hrs

You guys are really blessed with good roads and a good network of roads in the WC. Such things are not always possible in Durban and there is soo much risk involved.

Same here. The only thing that got me there under 5hrs was the thought of beer at the finish line.

Quite a few guys here that klapped the two laps. How much saddle time do you guys put in in training?

Zwift helped me a lot. Really awesome way of training (giving real value for your time put in).

I broke 5hrs after being on route for a 6hr but my saddle really started hurting my ass at the bottom of chappies so I got out of the saddle and caught onto the back of a group of MTBers in USN kit going really fast and flew to the finish.

Next year I'll fit my dualie saddle and not that holsaag of a Fizik on my hardtail :)
