Just read every single post in this thread and am absolutely blown away.

We could sort our country out with this sort of attitude.

I am seeded in E and have really trained hard for my (hopefully) first sub 3 this year.

Was up for it last year and then they changed the route. :cursing: :cursing: :cursing:

I'd really love to join you guys, the teamwork challenge is right up my street - BUT I am undecided.

I will follow the thread and sleep on it.

There is some brilliant advice in this thread and whatever happens, I really really hope everyone achieves the groups ambition.

Tombeej - you are a natural leader - you need to be easily identifiable from the start.

My little 2c contribution from my experience is a) the paceline is much easier to participate in by a random group (ie without previous practice) and b) the group needs to start off a bit slower than normal until, whichever system is chosen, is properly bedded down and working, when the pace can then start building to the level required.

Good luck to you all!!!

Awesomeness, and we have our own roving mechanic now :P

Ag nee man!

You should sort your mechanicalls before raceday.

That is one thing that makes me want to **** in my best bibs and that is when people pitch for a ride with a bike issue

Think calming and happy thoughts, we don't want you do have a heart attack or something, I was just kidding, hence the " :P"  ;)

Mechanicals won't be an issue. The group doesn't have the time to stop to help with punctures and mechanicals.

Someone asked a while back about water points. No water points in a sub three hour race. Two bottles should be enough.

This is going to be three hours of pain management for many people. It will be great fun.

That race tactic is not allowed.......#YOUWILLBEBANNED

Yesterday when i collected my son's race number for the kiddies ride i saw the start hill again. Its short but relatively steep. The main problem here is that with 200m to the top of it, the three lanes become TWO. This is something that we should take into account.

Are we going to all just race up to get through the traffic and then once we have turned right into Mnandi Road form our group there?

I think if we're not tight from the start it will be like losing each other in Sandton City during Christmas shopping, very soon spread over an area with many others mixing in around us, and we start losing sight of each other.

We'll make our lives a lot easier if we keep tight together going up the hill.

No need to race to the top, but of course no need to dawdle either. So the front guys must just get into a good strong pace that's not stupid and we all keep looking around to each other to make sure we're not getting stretched out and dropping people.

Again, I'll be at the back to make sure we don't lose anyone.

Once we've warmed up and the nerves have settled we can steadily start turning up the volume until we're into full group race pace.

We'll look something like this...

Rule #9....i'm telling you! ;-)

Just remember, no matter what the weather, no rain jackets or other flappy loose clothing. In fact, the windier the weather, the tighter your clothing must be.

May as well tie a boat anchor to your bike with a length of rope if you arrive on the start line in loose, flappy kit.

Even if it starts snowing...
