You may remember a few days ago I suggested that it might be nice for us to be 'uniformed' with Hub/BikeHub gear.....?

Anyway I contacted Matt (Admin) and as much as he'd like to help our cause, he is out of stock of older TheHubSA tops and is waiting for new BikeHub stock - due in 2016.

So we will be the rainbow I-train......

No amount of training now, is going to benefit you by Sunday.

Rest up, eat properly, sleep lots.

Edit: Oh, and avoid anybody with the flu.  :nuke:

The wife and all three my kids have got that horrible thing. My glands started swelling up yesterday, throat sore and phlegm on the chest. So busy dosing ACC200 and some Anti-inflammatories at the moment.

I see the weather is now predicting rain. I don't care actually. We need the rain more than I need to stay dry.

Question. What about people that are clearly too slow? Like if I start holding the group back too much I am happier just sitting up and dropping back. Will we suggest that to others if it's an issue?

Yes, people need to be honest with themselves and if the pace of the whole group is clearly too much for them, it will be up to them to say "I'm out" and let the group go.

I like how there's a lot of "guys" being mentioned  . There's a few girls as well you know.....

Ok so the front will slow down and wait for the people that are slightly slower on the hills. What worries me more is the downhills. There are some seriously long downhills - there are 2 on Jan Smuts and then that horribly dangerous one in Bryanston. How would we tackle those? I never trusted my brakes 100% in previous 947s but since I'm riding disks now I should be a tad faster going down the hills. There will be loads of obstacles though

I was hoping someone else would answer, because I'm giving myself a complex sounding all school mastery at the moment. Time for me to step into the background, I think.

Maybe the GCN guys can help:

Well my $0.02 is as follows: if we continue the principle that we will be faster in a group from the start to the top of Witkoppen than solo, then the approach to downhills would be the same as uphills. No-one is saying, if they did and I missed it, my apols, that we shouldn't climb up hills at a pace which is economically for the individual. All that was agreed is that we'd delay hitting the gas on the other side until we've all re-grouped? So downhills would be the same, descend economically, safely and within your limits (see the GCN video) and then after the downhill, we delay hitting the gas until we've regrouped?

The challenge to the above downhill approach is if a downhill is followed immediately by an uphill, as the delay, perhaps extended, at the top of the uphill may cause the group to break up? I can't remember the course well enough to identify any points where this might happen........

I do think the more we 'unpack' tactics ahead of time, and on the day (!), that it will be a challenging ride for all of us, and probably in differing ways. Whether you are a strong rider who is helping out (kudos to you gents and ladies) or an 'original' I-group rider who may well be operating above and beyond one's normal intensity level (that'll be me!), or even wondering why the group is dawdling at times (remember YOU may not be the lowest common denominator at that point) it's going to play out differently from most of your/our previous races. My guess is, however it works out (you drop off, get dropped etc), you'll arrive at a point in the race when you've gone faster and more economically, done some 'new' stuff, and had more fun, than you would have done solo. Hopefully that's the point......?

As I've said earlier - Tombeej - you are the natuaral leader - a crucial element of the groups success is having strong leader.

Don't leave us now....

Can I give a small piece of advise here....

Stop overthinking it. Just ride your bicycle as fast as you can and enjoy the day.

I agree but with everyone not being at the same level, a bit of planning is required.

So that if A happens this is what we do.

If B happens we do this.

As long as the list doesnt go to I  :whistling:

Descents: I didn't watch the video.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: NEVER EVER LOOK AROUND. EVER.

Just the little glance left and right to make sure there's no-one busy overtaking you, esp. on the inside of a corner...
