118.8 - up & down  - eating massively better than i used to but not seeing the numbers i was anticipating. Not riding much tho, and still having too many drinks.

Eish.....think I will just sit and enjoy the outdoor sauna......hopefully that helps with the weightloss and numbers next week......rehidration cocktail medicine however at hand.

I need to stop coming into this thread.

It started out really well, looked like a great place for people to motivate each other and work towards losing some weight.

All that has happened is it degenerated into most people being unable to stick to the eating changes needed and tumbles posting pics of food to taunt everyone.

Agreed.

I'm getting seriously annoyed by some of the "contenders"

It's very entertaining to read this thread and see so many fooling themselves. To over-indulge and think that a hard ride or two is going to magically cancel it out is nonsense.

If you can't maintain consistency in your eating habits, you'll never lose weight and keep it off.

The way i see it is that even if people are fooling themselves, there is no way to dodge the (now dreaded) monday weigh in. They will soon learn that they are fooling themselves.

point and case - i know that no matter how clean i chow - i am sabotaging myself by being lax on the liquid calories (the yummy hopsy ones)

this thread has sparked a paradigm shift in my case, i am now hyper aware of the K@K i used to call food, and am appreciative of this thread and its starters.

even if i dont lose weight i am eating MUCH healthier.

Even at the right weight it's just as hard to maintain the right weight.

Avoiding processed stuff, eating smaller portions and of course exercise helps

Shame. Aren't you the sub 80kg guy forcing his way into the vettie thread?

Not weighing myself until I get home as the scale at my folks is out of order. Been (mostly) holding to it, limiting beer intake hugely and saying no to all the Christmas treats. All of us have flu, so it's particularly important that I take extra care with what I put in at the moment. Looking forward to the weigh in when I get back... when I've been wanting a tot it's been Ballantyne 12 year on the rocks.

I'm up to 94.9kgs. Not a train smash being up 700g. Being injured hasn't helped but I'm eating well. Only indulged on Christmas day.

I was in the 93s at one stage last week :(

Well, to get back in the spirit of helping each other out, my tips are the following, for general healthy day to day living (basically common sense stuff to me that I've settled on through trial and error):

Drink lots of water during the day. No coke, juice etc. even ones with artificial sweeteners. Just water, and plenty of it.

Snacks should be things like fresh fruit, nuts, maybe some homemade popcorn with minimal salt. Better is to eat a bit more at meal times and forgo the snacks.

No added sugar. Get your sugar from fruit and vegetables rather than added to meals. This is particularly easy to slip up on - condiments and shop bought meals are typically loaded with sugar. Make your own sauces and don't add sugar. Same with coffee: black, or with a splash of milk, but never with sugar.

Cut out highly processed foods. Cook more, learn your spices and herbs and load up with lots of veggies and legumes. You'll lower sugars and salts overall.

One or 2 rides a week isn't going to cut it if you are looking to lose weight. If you are trying to maintain fitness, then you can probably get by. Otherwise you really need to aim  for 7+ hours a week over 4+ sessions in a week. High intensity stuff - running, or rides with plenty of climbing.

This is what I know I should maintain to be healthy - I slip up a lot, but try to maintain overall. I'm still a borderline buffalo at 92.5 kg, but I'm coming from being someone who was a heavy smoker, drank like a fish, ate fast food late at night and couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath. I think I was at 124 kg a few years ago. Its about setting a plan that puts you in good habits for life, not just a period of weight loss.

One more aside: I don't eat meat (since 2009) - but that didn't help me at first because I just overcompensated with carbs. Recently I supplement with a bit of fish (only sardines, hake and snoek) and thats helping a lot to balance out my eating and exercise.

oh and don't try to lose weight too fast. 0.5 - 1 kg per week of consistent weight loss is a good target because its more likely to stay off, rather than big fluctuations up and down.

The competition is keeping me on the straight and narrow.

If nothing else, it has made me consider everything I put into my mouth.

I am within a normal daily variation of what I was before the Christmas weekend, so am very happy.

Anyone who says riding doesnt help burn it off...clearly hasnt been watching my food intake and strava profile.

Today i weighed in at 108.4 kg...i believe that if i hadnt put in mileage...i would be well over 110 kg by now.
