Interesting reading twitter timelines of some pros. They all mention knowing the 'chemical brothers' and specifically one other known rider that is dirty. Yet no name....

Can a person accuse somebody like that on social media?

Not questioning all the rumors about the guy that has been doing the rounds for a loooong time but surely there might be some legal implications throwing it out there on social media?

It's actionable.

At this rate we wont have any locals left in the Epic...

interesting how few we normally seem to get in the top 10. Europros must be onto something coming from their winter into the harsh African heat.

I missed a few pages so this may have been answered ....

Who was he signed up to ride for in 2016? Also I know he rode under KARGO in 2015, and has either team issued a statement and subsequently pulled their sponsorship like Nedbank did when David George was found guilty?

I would be very dissapointed if that was the case... so few sponsors now and such great talent that needs it to support them. For that to be pulled for the fault of someone else would be a shame?

Sponsorship (money) is arguably at the root of all this. It is good when sponsors pull out, because that teaches the very best possible lesson to the dopers. And you know what? Sponsor no sponsor you can still be ready to ride your bike whenever you please.

Bunch of pussies if you ask me, all tip toeing around those they supposedly "know" are cheating.

Now, I am not asking that they publically say who is suspect, but if they are suspicious of somebody, surely you should notify the relevant parties of said suspicion. Then they will get tested accordingly, if clean no issue, if dirty....

Are you drunk?

The sponsors don't just stop sponsoring the dopers, they pull out of the sport which needs more sponsors!! Yes, that will teach them dopers!! Let's punish the innocent..... Having said that, maybe it's time for the innocent to protect their sport and livelyhood and get vocal about this. Hmmm

Looks like the banter is here

So who's the next big name to fall? I'm guessing that it will be during the 2016 Epic that another high profile SA rider will get caught...

No I am not drunk. This whole orthodoxy of 'sponsors make sport' is annoying to me - it's commercialisation on a massive scale and all that comes with it.

Ride your bike, be happy. 'Everyone' doesn't have to be drawn into it to make it fun, and nor does a bike ride have to be a big song and dance with razzmatazz and glamour and glitz (ie Cape Epic). In the good old days, it was an almost esoteric pleasure. You were a weirdo if you shaved your legs and pedaled a couple hundred kays in nothing but spandex. And that was cool in the same way that people who had beards long before beards were trendy were cool.

While the pros are needling up etc, the 'innocent' are enjoying the great outdoors on a bike, far, far away.

You may gather from this missive that I am not a fan of reality TV or the Kardashians...

I agree with baai'clist. Who says you need a whole sophisticated team to dope? Between google & internet you could probably read & order everything you need. Point is just coming clean won't win you sympathy. Saw the same with BS when he tried to explain on thehub. People are beyond gatvol with the damage done to the sport by the cheaters.

To be fair, BS' initials are something of an aptronym or a case of nominative determinism...

Agree with you, we need to create a society where cheating is out of the question. Not going to be easy but its a dream and anything's possible! But I believe having a proactive discussion on this matter is much better than keeping quiet for a start. Regarding notifying SAIDS about suspicious athletes: thats been done in many cases but unfortunately just being tested and returning a negative doesn't mean your clean... These guys are clever, ask Lance. But their opportunities are getting fewer really fast with the Biological passport system so there is hope!

Legend Matthys, great to see you here commenting.

Human nature is human nature, when the stakes are high and there is much to be gained through gypping the system, that is what will happen. In business, sports, anywhere you like.
