So at this time of the year relo's and friends who know you 'ride a bit' latch on to that when desperately looking for a present for you. The result is a catalogue of well meaning but totally useless presents that will be:

1) Thrown in the shed, man cave, drawer, bike bag or boot and stay there for the next 5 years

2) Get sold for a knock down price on the Bike Hub / Gumtree just to get them out of the house and remind you that your image of what you do on on your bike (athlete and a boundary pusher) is vastly different to what people perceive you do (playing on kids toys, shaving legs n' wearing lycra, and neo hippy who commutes to work because... well they're not sure).

3) Gathers dust with all the other unwanted kit until some one tells you where you can donate it for development riders and you damn near smother them with yellow reflection vests, 3 function wired bike computers and bike themed fanny packs.

What did you get this year and what are you doing with it?

I'll kick it off...

I haven't got an image as I gave it to the first township guy I saw on a bike but was a no name Bicycling Safety Kit with old school bandages, okay rear light, yellow workman's vest, aspirin, trouser leg clip thing and bike themed key ring with a hedgehog riding a penny farthing. All in a pouch that you strapped to your bicep.

Very sweet gift from an older relative and as the card said 'would help me in my riding endeavors and the big cycling journey in March'.

The keyring sounds quite cool...

I got a 3-d foam board model to make of the Greek island Santorini where me and the Mrs got engaged as teenagers.

What the !@#@!$$ am I going to do with this? But lo and behold the Mrs started making noises towards it, so i'm like "no, don't I want to make it, it's mine".

So now she's making it and I've clocked some points to spend sometime.

Very sweet gift that, if you consider that the idea is what counts. Someone is concerned about your safety. But I agree, best move it to where it is better put to work.

My brother in law two days before christmas says "oh...no need to get me anything..." In other words, he had not bothered to get anything for us yet and wanted to get let off the hook.

I had already bought him an awesome gift weeks ago.  So boxing day he rocks up and we give him his gift...and he is all surprised. What did he expect? Not everyone leaves their shopping till the last minute. :cursing:

This oke is lucky that he is funny and that he is family

Next year he is getting a big bag of coal. :P

If you look at it, it's actually the perfect present for a South African Cyclist at the moment! It's got everything you need to get to the end of ride. Was pretty cool especially as you consider she's over 90 and took herself off to Cape Union Mart to get the whole family gifts. Legend.

Mmmmm, I re-gifted something special yesterday.

An old friend and I agreed many years ago that one day we would do Epic together, and this year we had an entry.

Two weeks ago he was told that his shoulder needed significant reat and rehab and he should stay off the MTB for a few months.

I had no ambition to ride with someone else, so yeaterday my entry went to a good home
