dirtypot Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 Can also get to it from Constantia Main Road a few hundred meters before the circle at the Nek. You often see cars parked there - on your right if you're driving up.
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted May 9, 2016 Posted May 9, 2016 So essentially above the bus stop at the official trail head?

Going up, when all the fensie wine estates are in your left, die hel will be on your right.
Lefty V Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 So essentially above the bus stop at the official trail head? No, below the trail head- couple of hundred m further down Southern Cross.
splat Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 triangle of land where southern cross drive meets Rhodes drive. Really wild, not a long ride.http://www.pedalpower.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/greenbelts-map3.jpg
Headshot Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Die Hel is a lovely traverse between Constantia Road and Southern cross. Why it was left out of trails that were opened is we will never know. They have recently cleared the sides making it much wider (i.e e a jeep track again) and fixed all the water erosion - by hacking stacks of earth out of the slope side embankment ( not too sure about this as it looks like a recipe for more erosion) So far no sign of much needed drainage and/or water bars either.
Bicyclegear Posted May 10, 2016 Author Posted May 10, 2016 De Hel is a gem, but let us try stay out of it for now...
Shebeen Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 De Hel is a gem, but let us try stay out of it for now...damnit, it's become too well known. guys the devil lives there, proceed with caution.
DJR Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Yes, I also get the idea that the Greenbelts are a work in progress and that if the experiment of opening it to cycling works well enough and cause little trouble, we might well be looking forward to more of it in the future. Logic tells me that if there is no conflict where bikes are allowed together with walkers and horses, there should be no objection if we later ask for all of it to be opened. Stuff it up now by behaving like knobheads and we may well stuff it up later when we want more routes opened. (My 2c.)

bikebloke Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 So I will begin by saying im NOT a mountainbiker ,I am an out and proud ROADIE ! BUT ...... today I rode the greenbelt trail for the first time ever (as I kinda live right on it ) and it is really cool to have such a nice set of trails on dirt (mostly) right on our doorstep ! since tokai has been closed I never really bothered with mtb riding as they are not for taking on tar.. but I think ill have to go for a dirt ride more often now An observation however I didn't get lost going up but did turn the wrong way at peddlars coming down as there is a confusing green cycling sign opposite indicating a right turn and I ended up on strawberry lane (maybe im just too used to following the tar !(theres a little connecting lane further down strawberry lane back onto the trail so I didn't turn back ) A shout out to everyone who made this trail happen and a caution to us all .. lets behave and be considerate to other users because we are really lucky to have this route right here ,lets not mess it up ! (although the urge to tear it up in places is very strong

bikebloke Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 As proven, you can do the trail on a road bike yeah my derosa 888 with 25mm carbon clinchers but seriously I have a mtb I just hide it under a bushel
Pure Savage Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 yeah my derosa 888 with 25mm carbon clinchers but seriously I have a mtb I just hide it under a bushel If you do use the derosa, just let the 25mm down a touch and get a buddy to follow you with a gopro, thats what mine did when we went to the block house on gravel bikes.
dirtypot Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 An observation however I didn't get lost going up but did turn the wrong way atpeddlars coming down as there is a confusing green cycling sign opposite indicating a right turn and I ended up on strawberry lane (maybe im just too used to following the tar !(theres a little connecting lane further down strawberry lane back onto the trail so I didn't turn back ) That's because you're theoretically meant to turn right there to make use of the pedestrian crossing in front of the school to get to the other side of the road. If you crossed the road while turning right then you would get lost!
