I am very afraid that they agree this morning to stay calm for the weekend, with the knowledge that they will then attract 3000 mountain bikers with nice cars and expensive bikes. 

 

Then on Saturday morning they come back and start to riot at the start line taking all our bikes and setting cars alight.

Also received that message. But will advendurance guarantee my and my families safety while I'm riding the Ultra and they are alone at Camp.

If it was me, I wouldn't go. You'll worry and stress about this all weekend and it wouldn't be enjoyable anymore, even if nothing happens. Pity about the paid race entry fees and accommodation, but perhaps you can move your booking to another weekend? I'm sure most B&B owners would understand your decision to pull out.

My wife told me now she's not going anymore,because she doesn't feel safe sitting alone at Camp with our 6 year old while I'm out doing the Ultra.

So I guess I have to make a decision pretty soon.

Will leave my car parked at my accom and ride to the start.

 

Perhaps brush up on my technical skills between the rocks and burning cars on the way...

Well well, how history repeats itself. Back in the mid 80s we had a similar situation with the Dusi Canoe Marathon ( which coincidentally starts today). I remember my seconds being escorted in and out of the Dusi valley in a convoy with SAPS and army vehicles. So here we are 40 years later and we have the disenfranchised still protesting for the same basic needs and all that has changed is the government seems like we never learn.

 

I'll be there this weekend but at the first time of trouble I'm out of there and perhaps Sabie won't ever see my custom again.

Sabie may be calm for now but what will happen once 3000 MTB'rs decend into Sabie with shiny cars and mountain bikes?

 

I get the feeling that this is a riot tactic to get more potential hostages and cause chaos until their demands are met. It might be easy getting into Sabie tomorrow, but Saturday and Sunday will be a different story altogether.

 

My families' safety comes first so I will not be taking the drive down to Sabie tomorrow unfortunatly. The situation is way to fragile!!!
