Team Exxaro - We do not need to heed to the LAW

I just have this to say:  high profile and elite cyclists should set the example, as lots of young cyclists look at them as roll models.

As an example:  a few years ago when my eldest son started cycling with me on the roads, he asked why I stopped at a red light where there were no traffic.  He told me that most of the cyclists he saw did not stop if there were no cars.  I told him that I am not most cyclists, and stopping at a red light is the rule of the road, no exceptions.

Hi all!

I had a conversation with my guys about this issue, and the guys agreed that they have jumped the robot. It's true that they are breaking the law, I agreed that if we help them to understand or educate them in a good way that will make a difference to them than swearing at them. The words Stupid Kafir was used to them. That doesn't makes changes to the people. I'm always trying my best to them to understand the dynamic of sports everyday, it will be good for all of us if we help each other to rectify our mistakes than swear to them.

Hopefully it was not Francois using that terminology (he'd be pretty stupid himself to do that and give Exxaro all his details to pursue a hate speech case against him). My earlier point still stands in that we should try and better a situation with our reaction, not deteriorate it, regardless of who is right and who is wrong.

So who said the K word then? Or is it just being chucked around in an attempt to shift focus?

Personally I feel this country could do a lot to reduce road accidents by enforcing driver education from primary school level onwards. Although I find it hard to believe that the cyclists did not know what a red light means at a traffic intersection?

So, there sre two ways this could have played out:

"Hey you morons. That damn traffic light was red! You skipped the damn thing and I saw you! I will inform your sponsors about what you did!"

Or:

"Hey guys, I saw you skipped the red light back there. I do it also sometimes. Just be safe out there and make 100% sure before you do that. Look out for each other. The last thing we need is another cyclist being run over."

This is SA. Who knows what was said and what was heard...

amazing that every time a white person opens their mouth, the K word come out........  I am surprised your bunch of rebels did not accuse Jan Van Riebeeck as well.

My goodness.....someone skips a robot and you need to haul out a whiteboard and educate them? Will you do the same if someone breaks into your house or steal your bike.......

The OP knows what he has said and done and so does the Exarro riders, unfortunately it is all becoming a bit of a fruitcake which clouds the real issue in my opinion: "As a cyclist I have a responsibility to other road users and cyclists to promote this way of life as safe and wholesome. I would rather be alive than being dead but right!"

I do not believe the term Stupid K was used, especially in this day and age we are currently living under in SA. I DO however believe that the perpetrators, once confronted, decided to throw that in there as a reason for their stupid behavior. It has become waaay too easy to label a white person in SA as a racist bigot, and in doing so the issue at hand, i.e. skipping traffic lights (not robots - google Kinshasa traffic robot to see what I mean) is completely overlooked and made to be of no consequence.

I am dissappointed in the Exxarro team, and personally have decided to not support them until they can start behaving in an appropriate manner both on and off the bike.

Next thing we have another protest on our hands...

Welcome to the hub - you might want to introduce yourself before throwing around very serious allegations against the OP. Assuming you represent Exxaro then it might be worth asking them to vet your comments before posting as that is not the most professional response (if I was in Exxaro's position then I would really hope you have facts to back up that post).

Do they really not know what a red traffic light means? Or what exactly are you wanting to educate them about? Surely that is covered in cycling 101 - assuming you are a coach or something then that must be your responsibility?

If the OP used the K work and then went and gave them all his contact details, came here and made a fuss drawing further attention to the sitation, he would be right up there with Trump on the stupidometer, and he should suffer the consequences.

If he did not and this is a response to shift focus, it is a very low blow, and I would sue them. Being labelled a racists these days has very serious consequences in SA, and once labelled it does not matter if you are guilty or not.

Edit: Either way the guys should not have jumped the light.....

Jumping a red robot is bad.

Reacting defensively when confronted is not ideal but human.

Turning defence into cowardly attack using the race card ... putting egg on the face of those who vouched for your guys.

If you want to educate them then rather don't teach them how to play the victim when they break the rules.

Hell's Bell's .... what's with all the defending of riders jumping red traffic lights!

OP, keep us posted RE your email to the kit sponsors please.

All the posters slamming the OP. A red light is a red light, and it should not be jumped......basic rules of the road.

Cannot agree with you more Hairy. Red light means "STOP" I have been cycling for 9 years and have never skipped a red light for 2 reasons, #1 I love life and my family #2 its freaking illegal.
