Drowned my sorrow in beer at the end which made my day.

Haha those beers did go down quite well... well eventually...

So a hardtail should make for fun times!

Have done the 80 for the last two years on a HT, fun times are probably a little questionable... :P

Riding though that reserve after the descent down the Nek chatting to Dino Lloyd as we missioned over those grasbolle, he was on a dual BMC i think it was, i was quite envious... okay, maybe i was a lot... so i didn't stay around to chat and missioned on. :D

On a dual this year, so it should be fun!

That first loose rocky muther climb....the "monster" climb you can actually settle into a rythm...but on those baby heads, no chance

I'm sure that section is gone (mini monster), portage also gone. Its easier now.

I had 81.4KM and 1858m Ascend. Its tough and there is always another hill... the +/- 5km downhill @ 50-60km/h is fun though... Some okes retired themselves down that hill. 2015 still had "portage" and the rocky first hill that everyone walk.

I'm doing it on a hardtail

Looking forward to it, but I know it's going to be REALLY tough.

Definitely not ready for a race of this difficulty, but I felt like I was missing out on a lot last year.

Will be ready when the time comes...

Aiming for 5 hours, but will see how the training goes

This sounds like a "real" MTB race with some serious climbing

BTW, what setups are you guys riding?

I'm on a 34T 11-36 1x10 at the moment, but I know that's suicide for the actual race.

Will definitely do it on a 30 or 32T with 11-42, or maybe even a 2x10, just for the race.

Climbs are ok...its the sand, baby heads, pollotjie gras....that eats you

Yup I agree. Have done 2 x 45km, 2 years ago it was a serious single track rocky climb and a mean descent that tested your skills to the max.

Last year it was a wide open track that was no challenge, except for your fitness.

Is the route this year again the same, wonder if they will change it again?

The route should be like the haka climbs, afterall it's called the Monster, not the Sissy.

I did it on a 34t 11-42 and k@kked. I cycled every hill, but I ran out of matches. will be going with a 32t this year

Anyone willing to share some training routes around Pretoria/Centurion?

Nearest "hill" would be Klapperkop, but it's not really that steep or long

try the hills near klapper kop in the waterkloof area they are not very long 450m max, but they are super steep and spinting 6-8 of them 2 or 3 times a week wil be much beter than just sitting and spinning very long hills

good luck , see you on the start line
