ROUTE DESCRIPTION

Come cycle in the scenic farmlands near Durbanville! All three distances start in the quaint village of Philadelphia, heading towards the first climb on the Kerkplaas farm. From there the route goes into the beautiful Uitkyk valley, surrounded by vineyards. Crossing rivers and farmlands, the 40 km and 14 km routes will turn back towards Philadelphia while the 63 km route will continue towards Klipheuwel, turning at Inhoek before returning via Remhoogte and Swellengift. The routes offer single track, farm roads, river crossings, some gravel roads and pedalling among vineyards, providing something for everyone.

 

63 km route - 791m; 40 km route –650m; 14 km route –209m Climbing.

 

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE

From Cape Town, follow the N7 towards Malmesbury for approximately 25 km until you pass the Swartland 1-Stop Engen service station on your left. At the next intersection, turn right onto the R304 to Philadelphia / Stellenbosch. After approximately 2.5 km, the turn-off to Philadelphia will be on your left. NOTES

The event organisers are planning many great new stalls at the finish for this year’s Funride. Children u/12 will be allowed on the 14 km route and must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

 

Remember to display your PPA MTB funride number. No helmet, no ride. No transponder, no time - PPA pays for its members to be electronically timed by Racetec.

We will be having a safe bikepark and bikewash while you enjoy an ice cold beer and 200g jumbo pure beef burger in our beer tent.

This is a very tough race. Also quite boring in terms of single track and the route. However, close to home and cheap, see you okes Saturday.

Is it a worthwhile race to enter?  Still deciding between the 63km and 40km

 

I see it is a fairly flat track, which might help with speed, but how is the enjoyment level? Would assume it is not at the level of the tracks at Paul Cluver (those guys have really put in some effort in recently to even upgrade their tracks further)

The 60km was extremely sandy a few years ago but 40km was quite fun last year (except for the thorns!!!) . Just worried about sand with the lack of rain.

did it 2 years ago from Goodwood, met the other crew in Durbanville, top 10 finish & then trekked home. It was an awesom warm up.

i wouldve but got 36One this weekend. I remember lots of other groups & individuals doing it i.e. cycling from Durbanville, just make sure you have proper lights front & rear if you are going to attempt it alone & hopefully you meet up some guys along the way. Pack enough to eat & drink for afterwards as well.

Dont want to be "that guy" but keep a ear on the ground; apparently serivce delivery unrest in Phillie is being planned to disrupt the event. Not sure of organizers can verify if extra measures have been taken; but this is from a local in town.
